Lego from the 60s / 70s that isn't Lego

Trying to track down building blocks that I used to play with at my grandparents. Where my dad's when he was younger so must of been around in the 60s or 70s.

Would love to know the name of them as I've never come across them before. Can't find the name on the box as they where in an old rover biscuit tin.

They where white bricks however single bricks, so 1 x 2 as opposed to lego 2 x 4. It had the same green base as lego but this product had green roof tiles that clicked together. Also had red window frames where you would push the glass (plastic) in. If I remember correctly it also had a spinning piece where you could add longer blocks to make a windmil, oh and triangle shaped blocks to build gables for the house roof.

Any ideas, or have I just made it up?

YES!!!!!

I've searched all over Google and couldn't find it. Although lego that's not lego with roof tiles and red windows was probably a narrow search.

Bayko is a possibility.

Brilliant! I searched for “Lego green roof tiles 1970” 😁
It looks great!

The plastic from Betta Bilda got very brittle as it aged. In the early 90s DB and I tried to share the fun with our DC, the blocks and base plates kept breaking. It was sad.

It's so much better than lego. I'm sire it's still at my grandparents, will have to dig it out.

I can just remember as a child being upset there wasn't biscuits in the tin.

This is really similar to a set we used to play with at my grans that was a bit older - late 1950s.maybe?

It was called Bayko and had holes in the green base that you pushed metal rods into to create a frame and then slotted in (I'm guessing bakelite from the name) tiles to make a house.

I loved it! And there's no way small children would be allowed to play with it now. It's got "you'll take someone's eye out with that" written all over it 😂

We had some of that. I also had a big kit of tiny bricks and tiles, real clay bricks. They were stuck together with flour and water paste to build houses. I used to love that
