Would you recommend a Toniebox for an energetic 3 year old?

My DS is coming up to his third birthday and I can't decide whether to buy him a Toniebox starter set with a couple of extra Tonies, or to spend a similar amount of money on a few different presents, which include a remote control fire engine, some Paw Patrol figures, some books, and a little selfie camera thing.

I was initially quite taken with the Toniebox option, because it is a substantial present, whereas the others seem a bit 'bitty'. My DH, though, thinks it could be a waste of money because our little boy is so lively and not the sort of child who will sit still and listen for very long. He is always running around and doesn't stay with one activity for more than a few minutes. I know there's an argument that having a Toniebox could develop this behaviour in him, but it is an expensive risk to take.

All of the reviews I have read of the Toniebox are very positive, but I keep going back to the feeling that it is, essentially, an expensive automated version of someone reading a book to him. Does anyone have experience of Tonieboxes with this age of children? Was it a success, or is your Toniebox gathering dust on a shelf? Thank you.

DS3 loves his Toniebox. Lots of the stories have music too, eg, Toy Story starts with a series of songs then tells the story afterwards. He loves dancing to the music but sits and listens to the stories when playing with other things too. I think he likes that he can operate it completely on his own! He's very independent.
