Best toys for flights - 1 year old!

Hi all,

So we're hoping to go on holiday in August and my little girl will just have turned 1!
I'm really keen to keep her entertained so am looking around for some small but interesting toys I can whip out when she starts to complain.
I've been browsing amazon but not finding much to fit the bill at the moment.

Do any posters with experience of entertaining young children on flights have any wisdom, suggestions or indeed just general advice??

Thank you

Probably going to be disapproved of but a table loaded with cartoons and a mountain of snacks. One day is not going to mess up there development.

100% agree. I think for my own sanity and those around me, at this point anything goes!
Peppa, Ben and Holly, Blue's Clues. It's all going on the tablet :D
A good reminder as well to get some over the head headphones for her - thanks!

How long of a flight ? What type of airline? We flew British Airways (in the aisle with extra legroom ) and my one year old barely touched a single toy for the 11 hour flight . The tv that popped out from the arm rest was more interesting , so was the food tray and the sleeve they keep the brochures and magazines etc . The extra leg room helped too as he could run around a bit .

Meanwhile last week we had a 3 hour Ryanair flight and I didn’t bring anything and regretted that decision haha! A no frills airline wasn’t as entertaining for my one year old hahaha !

but to answer your question : SNACKS 😂

We took small bath toys with us, a new one came out as needed then they were great when actually on holiday. Also quite soft just in case they get thrown! Loads of snacks and download the programs she loves.

Sorry should have included that info - its Turkish Airlines, a 4 hour flight. We've got extra leg room. I can't imagine even contemplating 11 hours! I'm wobbling thinking about 4!

I love that the overwhelming response so far is "snacks"! :D

We have done several flights with Ds age 1-2 years.

pogs cordless over head headphones
loads of snacks
favourite comfort toy for sleeping
Usborne sticker books
magformers
those find x type books. We had an animal hard back search book and a bluey ‘where’s Wally’ type thing but easier.

small toys were a nightmare. He just dropped on the floor a lot and then they get lost under seats.

We used to be expats so have done a lot of flying with ours and the only thing I take now is an ipad with toddler headphones, favourite cuddly toy and a book to read before sleep time. I’m yet to find any toy that holds their attention for long enough to warrant the space in your carry on and/or doesn’t result in you scrambling around trying to fish it out from under the seat more than it gets played with. Do bring snacks, then some more snacks. Plus change of clothes for everyone and more nappies than you’d think.

Yes to snacks. A lidded cup she will drink out of.
Spare clothes for you and her.
Does she scribble? Get paper and triangular crayons - they won't roll. Postit notes make good stickers!
Have a great holiday.

Calornest Spinning top suction cup toys (amazon) have proved brilliant for various babies I have travelled with. They can suction onto the plane window or meal tray and are great once home for going on the highchair or bath.

Is she just 12 months or a bit older? I took my 19 month old on 2 flights last week, he loves vehicles so spent the time driving a tiny toy train and tractor on the seats/ my arms etc!
