Marble run

We already have a marble run but my son wants to get a bigger one.

Looking on Amazon there are a lot available these days - but I don’t always trust the reviews on there, and I don’t want him to end up with some flimsy rubbish.

Has anyone got a make they recommend? He does like the look of gravitrax (he’s 10) but I think it might cost too much to get enough pieces to build the size runs he wants.

Thanks in advance

You can't beat the classic Galt one in my opinion, I've recently played with a Quercetti one but it was much more fiddly to put together and felt flimsy.

Squiz81 · 06/01/2022 07:57

Thanks @NannyR the pieces do look a bit more sturdy in it the Galt ones. It’s hard to tell online though so good to hear from someone that’s used one - thank you

Gravitrax is great for something a bit more advanced, loads of add ons, really well made,

StuntNun · 06/01/2022 08:01

My nine-year-old has the Gravitrax and you can do a lot with just the starter kit. I also got some extra ball bearings cheaply from eBay (£3) because you don't get many with the Gravitrax system.

My son loves marble runs. He’s had the GALT one since he was about 4 but for Christmas this year (he’s nearly 7) we got him the science museum action and reaction set. He’s really enjoyed it.

It’s a few years old now but my boys loved the Quadrilla one. It’s sturdy as it’s wooden and has loads of little ‘trick’ pieces which send the marbles in different directions etc.
They are older teens now but I’m keeping it for the grandkids.

We have the Galt one and really sturdy. 4 and 7 year old love it.

We have Galt and gravitrax. Galt is indestructible but gravitrax far more interesting for a 10 year old.

InTheLabyrinth · 06/01/2022 10:15

Gravitrax for interest at that age.

rbe78 · 06/01/2022 10:33

For a ten year old, the Gravitrax. It's less about builidng the biggest marble run, and more about creative problem solving.

Squiz81 · 06/01/2022 12:44

@Mol1628 do you mean this one?

We have a massive galt one and gravitrax.
The Galt one is great but more for my 5 year old. Gravitrax is brilliant for all ages(my children are between 5 and 11), start with the basic starter set and then you can add to it over time. We have quite a lot now and it is used regularly.

Squiz81 · 06/01/2022 12:48

That’s good to know @StuntNun he and his brother (7) loved watching the huge gravitrax runs on YouTube - I was just a bit concerned the starter set would be a bit limiting. I might order that and get some second hand galt sets from eBay.

That’s the one yes there’s a few different sets but that’s the type we got.
