Motorised train set

Moonshine160 · 24/10/2021 20:59

My 2.5 year old DS loves cars, trains and tracks for them to go on. I want to buy him a track/set for Christmas that has motorised vehicles as he loves it when they go round the track on their own. Does anyone have any recommendations please? :)

Ultimately my dc preferred Trackmaster but for a 2.5yo, I’d go with Brio. The wooden track is undeniably easier for a child to put together themselves through. Trackmaster track is more fiddly to connect together, so there’s far more adult input demanded when setting up Trackmaster layouts. The brio motorised trains are compatible with some of the cheaper wooden tracks e.g. the one from Ikea.

Thanks @Ricekrispie22 that’s really helpful, I didn’t realised Brio were compatible with the IKEA tracks!

Toot toot drivers. The train set has a moving train with a motor 🙂

Duplo train (if they still have one) could be another option.

I’d get a Brio set - or another wooden train set, most of them have compatible tracks - and get a motorised train to go with it.

The wooden train tracks are simple enough for a 2.5yr old to assemble themselves, there’s plenty of add-on bits you can buy later on if your DS likes them a lot, and there’s a variety of motorised trains that can be bought separately.
