farm animals for 2 year old

Hi all, DS will be 2 next month. My dad is making a farm yard for him and I am looking for some farm animals to populate the yard. Can anyone recommend any good makes suitable for a 2 year old? I love the wooden ones that are around like holztiger, but they are a little pricey when you want a whole farm yard full!

We use the wooden animals from Apples and Pears ‘Farm in a tin’.

I was going to say Holztiger/Ostheimer. Yes you need to take out a bank loan/sell a kidney to afford them, but for quality and longevity I don't think you can beat them - they're the sort of thing that can be handed down the generations too so a lovely heirloom. In your position I would buy 3 or 4 of them plus a farmer as a 'starter', and then add to his collection every Christmas and birthday. Then if anyone's stuck for an idea what to get him you can suggest a new animal for his set.

schleich
look for second hand - they 'age' well.

You can buy a big bucket of different farm animals in smyths, probably cheaper on amazon though

Lanka kade are absolutely lovely.

Better for a 2 year old than ostheimer etc as a bit sturdier.

Duplo
Playmobil
ELC Happyland
Big bucket type ones sold in Argos etc.
Yes these are all plastic not wood but they last long and are good to sell on in the future.

Another vote for Lanka Kade. Lovely animals and cheaper than Holtziger etc.

My dd has some that were from a magazine subscription, my animal farm. She was excited to receive a new one every week/fortnight and was a gift that kept giving. They were cute animals so appealed to her (she was around 2) rather than the more realistic ones which she wasn't keen on.
