We inboxed the hatchimal took the screws out of the bottom have been sitting holding it for an hour tried tapping on it and other things but not a single thing has happened... no noises no eyes lighting up. Is it supposed to take this long?

well I fixed my grand daughters hatchimal. I took a brand new razor blade and cut the egg at the lower seam. take your time doing this as not to hurt the egg. I snapped the little guy from the lower half, and with a small Phillips screw driver I removed the battery cover and replaced the batteries with new ones and it came to life. making sure the holes are lined up I snapped it back in the lower half of the egg. then I inserted the 2 keys back in the bottom of the egg. make sure the openings are lined up. if they aren't just give the egg a quick twist until they are lined up. insert the keys and turn them counter clock wise and this will turn him off. before putting the top half of the egg back on make sure the round disk with a pin is inserted in his head. this is what puts him in the pecking mode. I set the top half of the egg back on the lower half and used some white electrical tape to hold the 2 halfs together. and now I have a working hatchimal. hope this helps. jon

We got ours working by putting the keys back in the bottom then pulling out. It then tried to go to sleep every time it made the hatching sound. We kept it awake and made a few extra holes in the pecking circle with a pencil one time we jabbed to hard and prodded the hatchimal which set it off hatching by itself again. From then on we've had no problems (so far!)
