What age to ditch Duplo and move to proper Lego?

Dd will be four and a half at Christmas and still really enjoys her Duplo, we have quite a lot. I don't think she is quite ready for proper Lego yet, but not sure wether it is worth investing in any more Duplo.

She is really into the Disney princesses especially Sophia and Frozen but don't want yet more small plastic toys that don't last this year.

Ideas gratefully received.

I sold our Duplo when my youngest was 9 and only then because we moved house. They still played with, built houses for various Sylvanian Families, Little Pet Shop, Moshi Monsters, other fads that came and went.

Plus points:
You don't stand on the bits as you can see them
You can build things very quickly
Is Cheaper 2nd hand.

My advice is stick with duplo and invest in lots 2nd hand. We had a huge roll out under bed drawer thing and it all lived in there.

My ds moved on to proper Lego at about 3.5 years. He copes fine with it, but wouldn't follow instructions to build a proper set, but he can make building and cars.

Lego and duplo fit together so they don't need to be mutually exclusive. I would start buying Lego and it could be played with alongside the duplo, it takes up less space too which is also a bonus!

I think there is a really good frozen Lego set available too

Mine both moved onto normal lego at 3.5 - 4 and onto lego city sets (the simpler ones) at about 4.5-5 I'd definitely move up.

I'd go for Lego too tbh.
