Play kitchen

Does anyone have any recommendations for an affordable play kitchen for a boy? I need something that won't take over the entire living room of a 2 bed flat.

I've seen the £20 Tesco one and, while I love the price, I don't suppose it's all that. Currently considering the £70 Little Tikes Super Chef Kitchen. Any help will be much appreciated.

I blight the Ikea one for DS's first birthday and to my surprise DSS1 (8) and DSS2 (5) were big fans. 8 months on and it still looks like new despite being played with daily by DS and regularly by DSS's.

A great investment IMO as it'll surely have resale value. In fact, look for a second hand one!

The only one worth buying imo is the Ikea one. Sturdy, grown up (the closer something looks to the adult version the more they love it imo), good resale value, tall but not too wide. Can be customised by you (painted etc).

Perfect.

Another ikea fan here. It's wooden: not plastic. DS (2) loves it.

SomethingAboutNothing · 15/07/2014 23:46

The idea one is fab! DS particularly likes the hob that lights up like a real one.

Oooh, a light up hob?

Are the ikea accessories any good? Or better elsewhere?

We have ikea one, and it's good, but pretty massive! On the plus side it is quite tasteful looking, with lots of cupboard space to store all the inevitable play food, tea sets etc.

Yeah the acvessoroes are good. We have the metal pans, metal cooking utensils and the black plastic utensils. We also have the material baskets of food. I bought their kids plastic plates and bowls for the kitchen.

Kitchen items we bought elsehwere: wooden pans, cake stand and cakes, plastic toaster and kettle - all Sainsburys. Chopping veg and wooden knife - Wilkos. Basket of plastic playfood - argos.

Lovelydiscusfish · 16/07/2014 06:35

Yeah, we got the ikea metal pots and pans - dd likes them as they make a satisfying clang when hanging on the hooks if they knock together!
Wasn't as keen on the ikea fabric play food though. The best play food we have is a Melissa and Doug fabric pizza, with all the toppings etc- dd loves it! We also got a massive basket of plastic play food from Morrisons for about a pound, none of which is to scale but which dd loves.

Thanks for the info everyone. Ummm, we have the Ikea plastic bowls, which were bought for weaning Wink and continue to serve at breakfast.

A another vote for the ikea one too. We bought ours from eBay and collected it, which meant not only was it assembled, it's previous owner also gave us all the accessories too. Ds is 2 but the other dc of 6 and 10 love it too. It lives in our kitchen and just blends in. He plays with it every single day, and visiting children all gravitate to it too.

AggressiveBunting · 16/07/2014 09:38

Ikea again! It is quite big but on the upside you can store a lot inside it. Massive hit with both ds and dd
