I second the shock absorbing case. We got this one. It bounces.

Apps that are used most frequently by my 2yo and 3yo:
Tozzle
Balloonimals
Baby Scratch
Talking Tom (and its many, many varieties, often free - Talking Ginger has been particularly good)
Dipdap has been very popular
Cbeebies
any Duck Duck Moose apps - I have Old Mac, DH has Incy Wincy Spider and the Wheels on the Bus, and my DC have played with others on the Apple store iPads
Cars, Planes & Trucks Pairs (any sort of flashcard matching games seem popular)
Baby Colors
ABC Song
Balloon School
Kids Songs
Farm School

I've also downloaded several Cbeebies shows, which my kids play regularly.

Get some of his favourite stories. There's often an app version, or could be downloaded as audiobooks for him to listen to. If you show him where to find the videos and audiobooks a few times, he'll have no trouble navigating to them on his own in no time!

Be sure you set the restrictions so he can't install, delete, or do in-app purchases!!!! You can also remove the internet browser.

I hope your little one gets well soon and the hospital visits go well! Thanks

I second the recommendation of Toca Boca & Sago Mini, and the beebies app.

DS has been playing the Agnitus app this morning - it's quite American but seems to be pretty educational.

You can do other things too, like use the camera to take pics, there's an easy ebook making app you could use to make a story about the whole hospital experience.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 24/11/2013 09:06

Book Creator is the ebook app

Twunk · 24/11/2013 09:08

Toca Boca is by far the best I've come across.
Dr Panda - supermarket one is very popular
The cbeebies app
Clicky Sticky

Twunk · 24/11/2013 09:09

Agreed re restrictions - I usually also restrict the camera or you get HUNDREDS of photos of your child's nose!

mmmmsleep · 24/11/2013 14:34

thanks. quite right about the case I'll get ordering!

I don't know if you have a kindle, but there is a free kindle app on the ipad too, which turns the ipad into a kindle. When ds was in hospital, I put lots of books on for him and some for me for the evenings. Also if you download the bbciplayer app, you can download programmes to watch, which stay downloaded for 7-30 days.

mmmmsleep · 26/11/2013 00:09

thanks hazey. I do have a kindle so will do that. lots of I player downloads zipping onto the ipad as I type!
