Best tablet for a 3 year old?

My little girl loves playing with her daddy's tablet but oftentimes presses the wrong button and ends the game, etc. So we thought a child's tablet would be more appropriate.

She likes games such as: matching pairs, drawing, looking at animals, making music, listening to short stories, anything to do with my little pony or hello kitty.

I'd like a tablet that a 3 year old would be able to navigate.

She was 3 in July if that helps.

Thanks guys.

I'm interested to see what everyone else says, but I'm thinking of getting a nabi 2 as a family gift for Xmas to help with the long plane journey to nz.
Fingers crossed he likes or as much as his daddy's ipad ;)

Well i have a 2 year old and after a lot of research i found the best family tablet to be the Tesco Hudl surprisingly. Its actually a very decent slate for the price and has a thickness, anti slip ba k and bezel width that would allow for a toddler to comfortably use it.

The price is great for a slate that children would be using and after a chat with a sales person Tesco yesterday i found out that they do offer a reasonable cover plan for accidental damage etc...

It actually comes out in the top choices for tablets on all the tech review sites like CNet too.

Wow thanks hollowallows!

Are the aps limited to what's on GooglePlay? Or can you download from other sources too?

I'm loving the kids' protective bumper: www.tesco.com/direct/hudl/#accessories

Is it easy for young children to navigate? Or will I constantly be having to correct them?

Sadly i have only seen it in demo mode which seriously limits your ability to see its full potential. I am on my way to buy one tonight so i can get some answers for you and post back later if you are still interested.

The other slate i was looking at was the asus memo pad 7. Its a budget version of the google nexus and only £20 more expensive than the huddle.

I am assuming that like me, you want something you and your toddler can use? I have seen some slates specifically for kids but think its better to get one i could use too. I am just not buying anything too pricey and getting a decent cover plan.

Do check out the nabi 2, it had a protective bullet and had a patents mode where you can use it too. The hudl I think is good if you don't Jane an ipad the otherwise the difference in speed/image quality is apparently noticeable

The nabi also comes preloaded with games, but doesn't have full access to the play store (Google being difficult there and trying to push you to their nexus) but can access the Amazon app store.

Nabi also has a memory slot so you can expand it with an SD card which I plan on preloading with movies/tv shows

And it's £150 which isn't that much more than the hudl...

Ooh, although I've just seen you can use tesco vouchers and they count as 2-4-1 with the huddle which means you could theoretically get it for £60 of you somehow had £60 of tesco vouchers!! Bargain!

Just guessing but I would have thought you might not get many responses because most people wouldn't buy a tablet for a child that young?

4yoniD · 26/11/2013 20:45

Not the cheapest but I have a Nexus 7 which my 5 year old and 2.5 year old plays on. Must admit games for my 2 year old are better on my iphone but maybe I haven't looked hard enough. Much more for the 5 year old. I chose a Nexus because you can buy a really good (if expensive) drop proof, splash proof case. For me that was the must. Personally I would buy either a "baby" tablet like the Innotab or an "adult" tablet which you can buy a really good protective case for.

If you buy a tablet for a 3 year old, what will you buy them when they're 7?

My husband was asking me if we should get one, and I think they're a bit young.

writingquestion · 29/11/2013 11:14

Mine are 8 and six and they are still too young IMO
