ELC Big City Garage - lift stuck

ThisIsYourSong · 16/03/2012 10:25

Hi, I've just bought one of these second hand (the old blue ones) and the lift is really stuck. I have read this is a fault but its ridiculous, I have to force it to even move it either way. Its going to drive my easily-frustrated-two year old twins mad!

Is there a trick or something I don't know about (don't have the instructions). Or is it a dud? Or are they all this bad?

TIA

Take it back to ELC. They don't need to know you bought it secondhand. their returns policy is excellent. They may swap it for a new one Wink

ha ha, nice idea. They sell the new ones now though, and not sure when they started!

Hmm The returns policy is 28 days with proof of purchase. Not effecting statutory rights etc.

With one that is obviously so old. The blue one hasnt been sold in store for at least 2 years you might not get anywhere with returning to a store.

They arn't all as bad. Try spraying with some furniture polish maybe.

I've taken older stuff back before. If the item is generally in OK condition and been looked after, they will likely swap it. Let us know how you get on!! Grin

I guess it depends on your local store I suppose.

We are quite strict but we've been burnt by people bringing in second hand stuff asking for a swap.

Donated several ex display toys to local charity shop. Scratched through the ELC logo on the underside of product.
One of the same items was returned to us several weeks later, customer insisted that it was bought and paid for instore, took great pleasure in showing her the big X scored into the plastic and showing her the actual screwdriver I used to do it!

On another occasion we had a gentleman returning several large items and getting the full price money put on giftcards (this was before the 28 day with receipt policy) He'd been buying them from a nearby closing down ELC and had the cheek to tell the manager over there, unlucky for him the manager was transferring to our shop after the closure, he came back in for more refunds and we refused and told him we knew what he was doing. He was so ashamed he gave us the giftcards and refused to have them back!

You can always try your luck.

Thanks for your responses, but I couldn't pull it off! TBH I wouldn't try for something I bought secondhand. Its just annoying that the person didn't tell me.

Ferrett do you have any insights into the actual problem Smile. I see the new ones (they were out of stock here for a while) have a wind up lift.

The lifts did sometimes used to stick and in a few cases it was sometimes quite bad. it wasn't enough of a problem to be a product recall but it definitely was the reason behind the redesign.

Putting any kind of safe lubricant onto the inside of the lift tower would make it move up and down smoothly.

(I had to refrain from using the words lift shaft because that sentence was getting too risque, what with the use of lubricant on the shaft and moving things up and down smoothly... Grin)

Oh thankyou! Just had the same fustration with the lift post nearly new sale purchase. A good squirt of furniture polish did the job! Think the lift in the old blue model is better (once working) the red winch version seems a little like hard work....
