Both me and dh hate plastic toys, specially the ones that have tiny speakers and make sounds in that tinny tiny way (bah hum i know). But ds is going to be a year old very soon, and he likes nothing best than to turn something on and off, specially if it has a brigh light and big button (like the one from a play station, or an external hard drive) and if there is such a thing as a non-annoying plastic electronic toy, where can i find it? we are ready to put our snobbery on hold!

The toddler tortoise is good. You bang the top - like a big button - then it lights up, plays a little tune and moves. Actually quite cute. The other thing mine enjoyed was the sounds and lights drum that has 4 buttons on the side to press and then it lights up if you bang it and plays different tunes. DD used to dance to it. Both ELC I think - I bought mine second hand off ebay.

Lots of toys have a button with a light. The trick is to find one where you can switch off the sound and not show ds where the sound button is. Grin

You may be fighting a losing battle though. He will probably get annoying toys from other people.

stangirl he's enjoyed that drum too when playing at friends houses! i am actually looking for something that requires a bit more small motor skills as he's not interested in big buttons (picky thing).
Good point about the switch theonewiththehair, and yes, i know we'll eventually loose, but we have held our position for a whole year and so far nobody has made that fatal mistake everyone being far too afraid of us and therefore giving us very little stuff due to my very vocal dh.
