I have a 5 and a half year old who is learning for a Barbie christmas!

Any suggestions about which are worth going for and which to avoid like the plague? Ideally I'd like to get a set (such as house/plane etc) or a couple of items such as horse and carriage/puppy pool (although would prefer to avoid things involving water outside the bathroom!) and an individual doll.

There seem to be a few offers at the moment (sainsburys and argos for example) so was hoping to get organised and take advantage sooner rather than later.

Thanks all Smile

Grin

personally I think they are revolting on several levels and would not buy them for any child

but if you are going to buy it, I would go for something that has a bit of practical play value - is there a barbie doctor's kit or something?

My daughter has had Barbies since her 4th birthday (now nearly 5 1/2) and she has had SO much fun with them - and so has her nearly 3yo brother. My sisters and I loved them too as children.

My dd seems content to just dress up the dolls and act out little stories with them, the few accessories she has (a car and a horse) are largely ignored - my best purchase was a load of dresses for them from Ebay. That said, I am wondering about getting the 'Glam Vacation House' for Christmas! I haven't seen it in the flesh/garish pink plastic, but the reviews on Argos say it folds up quite compactly which is a bonus.

One of dd's friends has the plane and it looked HUGE and hideous! The car is good fun, even if dd doesn't play with it that much.

Hehehe to the tumbleweed!!!

I agree but I have a little girl who is the most twinkly pink entity I have ever known!! I am not by any stretch an experienced person in anything pink or barbie and was hoping that the barbie requests would stop if they were ignored by santa last year and for birthday in the summer but its got more intense if anything...hence the request for advice. I'm a lone parent, working part time and doing a full time degree so whatever I spend the limited money I've got on really needs to work/do what it says on the advert/last a while!!!

Tikka I hadn't seen your post (mning on my phone and it updates in a weird way!)

Thanks for the advice. She is very keen on ponies so that's a consideration. I'll have a look for extra outfits too. Thanks.
