Sylvanian Families - is DD too old?

She is 9 in October and really enjoys playing with them when she goes round to friends' houses to the point where she has requested some for her birthday. She already has a doll's house which she very rarely plays with.

Do you think Sylvanians are something she'll grow out of by 9.5? I'm thinking that rather than splashing out a fortune (which we don't have) on all the bits, Ebay looks like a reasonable bet for 2nd hand. Too stingy? Should I just be grateful she's into looking for frogs in the garden, making fairy houses and climbing trees etc & doesn't want her nose pierced and a boob tube for her b'day? Smile

My 9 year old still plays with hers.

My friend has a 12 year old that still plays with hers...

I remember coveting some at that age and my friend collecting into her teens. I think they're perceived to be quite 'cool' in that age group. There are adult collectors of it too. I'd get her some, like you say it's nice that she is still into playing. When she grows out of it you can sell it on (it holds it's value really well- keep the boxes) or keep it for grandchildren.

DD only got into these when she turned 10, and still plays with them regularly a year later. And then all her friends started to rediscover theirs and start collecting them again. TBH I think at this age it is probably better to encourage something that seems a bit young rather than something too old.
Plus this year SF have a new family of meerkats - so cute!

My 14 year old discovered them the other day at a younger friend's house.......I then had peaceful uninterrupted adult conversation with their mum for over 3/4 hour.....

mind you I don't think she would want to start her own collection now she has sophisticaticised (sp?) her room.
