Go go hamster - what do they do?!

My five year old DD is desperate to use her birthday money to buy a go go hamster. She has enough to buy the hamster, but probably not any accessories, unless I find a good deal somewhere.

What do the hamsters actually do on their own? Is it worth getting one and making our own ramps/den etc for it? And do they last long enough that I can get a hamster now and add accessories at Christmas?

My Dd and DS got one last christmas, Ds's lasted all of one day, but then he was only 2 and insisted on pushing it along the floor rather than letting it go on its own. Dd's is still working, though rarely played with.

They basically make squeeky noises and run around, if they detect an object they change direction. They also get tangled in hair, so make sure your Dd keeps it away from her's! Having said that Dd (4yrs)does seem to like her's and my neice (8yrs) has 2 with all the tunnels etc and thinks it's great.

My dd got one for christmas and she LOVES it. we got all the stuff too but you don't need it. He (Marvin....) is just as much fun on his own. We have wooden floors though so it probably wouldn't be as good on carpet. Our best accessory is the car. Basically all of the tunnels and things join together and they just run about inside like a real hamster.

Thanks both of you. That's sounding good. We have wooden floors, she's got fairly short hair and I can just picture her watching it running around the place!

Think I'll let her get one and add accessories to her Christmas list, which will help all the desperate relatives who can never think of anything to buy!

I wouldnt get ALL of the big accessories. You dont need them and it was overkill for our DDs. They would have been as happy with just the hamster and one accessory each.

They entertain the cat for you, although they confuse the dog. Having said that, my dog is afraid of x-mas decorations Hmm

They are very very funny toys. DS2 got one with his pocket money but not the other accessories. It makes everyone smile when they see it charging around making cute noises.

Not great on carpets.
