Fancy dress costume for an 18 month old boy

DD2 is having a fancy dress party for her birthday and I'd like to dress up DS2 (aged 18 months). Any ideas where I can get him a costume? I'd ideally like something really cute and fairly cheap! Some kind of animal costume (eg. bear) would be good, but am open to any suggestions!

Making or buying?

There's a lot to choose from out there; how much were you thinking of spending?

FreddoBaggyMac · 29/08/2010 16:46

Buying (wish I could make one but I'm not good in the sewing area and have no sewing machine Sad... one of my things to get into one day!)

I can actually find very little for an 18 month old... they all seem to be 3 yrs plus or for under ones... Definitely want to spend less than 20 pounds, ideally much less!

I have a spiderman costume, age 1.5-2, I know that's not really what you wanted though.

Have you looked on ebay? can normally get bargains there?

onimolap · 29/08/2010 16:54

Try here

Their costumes start at 6mths and about £18

FreddoBaggyMac · 29/08/2010 16:57

Thanks everyone. I've looked on ebay but there wasn't much at all, will look at your link now onimolap, thanks.

Hmmm, there are some quite nice ones on there but I'm wondering if there's anywhere where I could pay a bit less. Perhaps I should wait a couple of weeks til all the Halloween stuff comes into the shops...

This is when you wish there was still Woollworths...

Some major supermarkets do fancy dress, but I don't know if they run to animals. Also perhaps party and joke shops?

Tortoise · 29/08/2010 17:26

I was going to say Woolworths online but it seems their fancy dress page has gone.

gigglewitch · 29/08/2010 17:32

have you thought of t-shirt, dungarees, tool belt and yellow hat ....voilá - Bob The Builder [girn]

CupcakesHay · 29/08/2010 17:52

Don't asda and sains and other supermarkets do costumes too?

FreddoBaggyMac · 29/08/2010 17:58

Have had a look at asda, tesco, M&S, Disney Store but can't find anything apart from fairy outfits. Their fancy dress ranges seem to be really limited at the moment... must be waiting for their Halloween stock I'm thinking.

I miss Woolworths!!

Interesting bob the Builder idea gigglewitch, but not sure where I'll get a tool belt and yellow hat to fit Grin

Will check out sainsburys and a couple of other places...

My friend dressed her small babe up as a pirate - striped t-shirt, red patterned handkerchief round his head and bristles and tash drawn on with eyeliner pencil.

It looked great!

FreddoBaggyMac · 29/08/2010 19:00

That's a great idea Theyremy, although the tash will be wonky as DS doesn't keep still for more than a tenth of a second at a time at the moment!

Guys, I need to make a costume for 17th March for my 18 month old daughter and it has to be from the Gruffalo. I have no prior experience and no equipment! Hellp!!!
