Weight loss without loose skin?!

Has anyone lost 5 to 6 stones in their 40s and not ended up with lots of loose skin?

I’m at the beginning of my weight loss journey (I’m just over a stone down so far, with about 4st 7lbs left to go).

I know all the tips to minimising loose skin/improving the appearance of it, like slow weight loss, building muscle though exercise, eating enough protein and being careful with nutrition. But I’m wondering whether it’s likely the case that whatever I do I will end up with rolls of loose skin. Or has anyone lost this amount and ‘got away with it’ so to speak?

Im going to carry on regardless, for the health benefits alone, but I guess I’d like to be prepared (or even inspired!) for what the results might look like.

In case it’s relevant, I’m mid-40s, was 14st 7 at my heaviest and was overweight for 4yrs following illness having been a ‘healthy’ BMI all my adult life prior to that.

You can minimise it by taking the steps you’ve listed, but it’s inevitable to an extent.
I lost four stone (went to the gym throughout, protein, collagen, moisturised, did it slowly etc) and I have some loose skin on my stomach. I also had a saggy neck which required polynecleotides to improve.
It was worth it though!

Congrats on your weight loss @IwanttoWFH! I think my neck is going to be an issue too, but I’m not sure I can run to aesthetic treatments, so I may just have to live with it! Glad it helped for you.

I've lost just under 4 stone and at 52 my loose skin is awful. I lost 2 stone after my dad passed away and was just starting to feel a bit better when my marriage broke down which resulted in a further 1 stone 10lb rapid loss. I'm someone who's appetite disappears through stress and upset and I've had no energy to go to the gym and preserve any muscle. I absolutely hate how I look with nothing on. My recommendation to anyone who intentionally wants to lose weight is to combine it with lifting weights and a good high protein intake. My best friend has lost 12 stone over four years with calories counting and looks amazing as she worked out alongside dieting and has far less loose skin than me (but appreciate everyone's body will react differently)

I’m really happy with my skin. Started 17.4 stone and stopped at 11st. My skin did look awful at first. But as times gone on it’s got so much better. If I was to lose more it probably wouldn’t look so good. I go to the gym a couple times a week and swimming occasionally.

Oh @Alwaystrustyourgut I’m so sorry to hear what a stressful and unhappy time you’ve had. I hope some good things come your way very soon.

Thanks @MymateDave it’s interesting to know that the appearance can improve with time. And congrats on the fantastic loss!
