What do I do with the bloody things? It seems mean to put them in the green bin and nobody else wants to adopt them.
House is starting to feel like a suburban day spa…

Nobody wants this. It might tip someone in a hospital over the edge

😂😂😂

OrdinaryGirl · 26/10/2026 18:03

Ok I am going to group them in the bathroom and they can bitch about me together - thank you @justasking111
This is the last chance saloon though. I’ll see if I can get them flowering then when they don’t look so existentially bleak I can leave them on a park bench

If they haven’t been given by a colleague can you sneak them into work somehow? Everyone loves a staffroom plant

Skdkhvyvrhej · 26/10/2026 18:09

Walk out your front door. Stick on road with a sign which says free.

Why is everyone so incapable of getting of rid of stuff.

Group them and stick in some artificial flowers until they bloom again. They do like orchid food.

DontLiveByTheClouds · 26/10/2026 18:20

Put them on your front wall with a sign saying please take, otherwise they'll die through lack of care. Someone will love them.

Owhatfuckeryisthis · 26/10/2026 18:24

Love them. I bought a big white one to go in our new bathroom march 2025. The last flower died in August 26. Im trying to get it going again. Got another one in the bathroom tht is starting to flower again.
I would buy them for my desk, then give them to the science technicians who could get them flowering abundantly.

Busybeemumm · 26/10/2026 18:30

Outside your house with a 'please take me home' sign. I've got rid of lots of stuff this way.

RaininSummer · 26/10/2026 18:39

I only have which I do like when it chooses to flower but most of the year it's in the naughty corner. Could you put them on a free giveaway site locally?one

I was running a hospice for orchids but I’ve decided to close it down

Fed up with them all just dying, I REALLY tried with a very expensive Waitrose orchid last year - was £55 so not cheap. Damn thing offed itself within weeks

so nope. No more palliative care for orchids

HorseandHeron · 26/10/2026 18:55

I love them but once the flowers drop off I have always binned them as I am no good at caring for them after they stop flowering. But this year I suddenly decided to keep one. It looks just like yours. It will probably be chucked out in spring. I'd love a steady march of them so I don't mind so much when they die. They look great on a kitchen windowsill.

£55??? I've never spent more than £15 on one. It must have come in a gold-plated pot.

I can’t do this because the people who gave them to me regularly pass by my house - you see the dilemma 🙈

I love them I have about 6. When finished flowering I put mine on the windowsill in my bedroom until it flowers again in a few months. I have some that are 8 years old and still flowering

My best result was £5 or £8 from B&Q.

You just have to be patient 🤷‍♀️ ignore them for a bit, water (they like rainwater best) every now and then.

They will suddenly reflower and they are so beautiful 😍

It is isn’t it? I moved house and started a new job a year ago and they began their slow march to the house, on their exposed rooty feet - brought for housewarming and thank yous and birthdays. I’m mercifully down to three now which is three too many.

All of them spend most of the time as a bare stem with creepy Jurassic roots heaving over the side of the pot and maybe two fleshy leaves. Can I just throw them away? It feels wrong 🙈

This horrifyingly graphic description made me realise that I definitely have some moderate orchid phobia 🫠 Or just a revulsion? Ugh.
