Searched man's name and don't like what it showed

Met someone randomly and he seems nice. I thought we clicked. Wants to meet up.
I don't know much about him but he gave his name and the where he lives . I
'googled' him, and it returned a newspaper article, someone with that name from there was charged for an offence (attempted grooming of a minor). After that it went to crown court. Don't know any more.

The name isn't unusual but not 'John Smith' common. He might have a namesake, and I don't know if the ages matched. He might not have been living there then. If he was why hasn't he moved?
All I told him was my 'nickname' and roughly where I live so there's a limit to how much digging I want to do.

Do I just block him? I'm in shock.

Facebook and inatagram search. And yes look it up in court docs.

Telling the op to block someone because he shares a name with a paedo? Yet half of you have also said if it's him, he'd have changed his name 🥴

My workmate turned out to be a nonce and hes got the same name as someone famous so you have to search for his town to find it.

That's a big margin for error 🤷‍♀️

Find out some more information about him, it might not be him. Google most people and you won't find the actual person. Do you know where he works or anything more about him you could dig more into?

I think it's a bit nuts to run away if you don't know it's definitely him. My name comes up with someone totally different locally, she's quite impressive but not me and I don't appear until a few pages back with something quite random that no one would even pick up on. The reason for me is I don't allow anyone I work for to put my details on their website. No reason but I don't want my info out there. He may be the same.

100% agree, things like this always bring out nutty responses. It's easy for strangers to be nuclear it doesn't affect them. Sceptical whether they would take their own advice in the real world!

The usual terrified negative Nancy's. Find out more information first however you can, and certainly don't be ridiculous by sending him that and blocking him, quite childish. What sort of idiot gets a dangerous person's back up if he is dodgy (no matter how much you try and keep yourself private, you've already met him in person he knows your face), or it'd just make you look like an idiot if youre wrong and the poor bloke's done nothing and it would be quite upsetting for him too. Common sense..find out more, it's definitely possible in this day and age. Then if you still have doubts just quietly back off or say it's been great but rather leave it where it is you don't have to provoke him. Def don't divulge your personal details at any point and block the number obviously if he is dodgy.
