I’ve interviewed for a new job that I have been heavily pursued for, slightly more money (think one band public sector), which was listed for 2.5 days a week. I currently do 3 days a week. At the interview they told me it’s going up to full time, I mentioned job share but it’s disliked in my male-dominated service. It’ll be a 60:40 split in favour of WFH, but variable “out” days.
DP is starting a new job with 50% commuting, 50% at home (nearest commute is an hour, furthest is more like 4 hours away), again variable days. We’ve got DC, reception age, with GP after school two days a week but no other wraparound.
My dilemma is that 3 eight hour days already feels more than enough, as I run a beauty type business that takes up approx another 1-2 (8-12 hours plus admin). I don’t want to give this up as done it longer than the other job, even adapting part of my house - though my mum says I should to take this role if offered.
I will struggle to stay in my current job as I’ve already been threatened with redundancy twice this year. My current workload is very small so feel my skills are dwindling away and there’s no hope for progression on part time hours where I am. I’m annoyed that they have altered the job hours as 18.5 would have been perfect!
the extra money would be great, but we don’t need it - we have a really good life so would probably only use it for overpaying the mortgage. I’m also struggling to conceive another baby, so really aware that DC might be my only one and I’ll be damned if I miss any of their growing up.
any thoughts appreciated!
