LTB is really bloody hard

After a long time of agonising I’ve decided to leave my 25 year relationship/marriage.

For a lot of reasons it’s me who has to leave with my two teens.

My god I’m not sure if I’ll get through this process.

I work full time and earn over 55k but this isn’t enough to meet the affordability requirements to rent here.

I’ve applied for UC which seems crazy to me but online application, phone appointment and in person appointment done.

Found a 3 bed property successfully after being turned down from some I have viewed. Near children’s school/work/family so it’s ideal.

Paid holding fee of £500, checks passed, paperwork completed. Told I didn’t need guarantor as I meet affordability and then this changed to needing a guarantor as UC can’t be counted until it’s actually being paid and UC won’t pay until ive actually moved. No one to guarantee 2k rent for me so ive applied to company guarantors recommended by rental agency. This will cost 2-3k a year, initially told I could pay monthly but now ive been sent contract that says I need to pay in full and sign a 3 year contract. so im looking for other quotes.

i also need to pay £500 ‘no deposit’ deposit. So it’s going to cost at least 3k plus first months rent with UC of 2k and furnish a full house for me and my children.

How on earth do people manage this?

Im doing it all in secret, getting ready to try and escape and there’s barrier after barrier. I’m buying furniture on Facebook marketplace and picking up small items as I go but this is so hard.

anyone else experienced this?

WITHOUT universal credit I mean. So securing rental and first months rent is 5k before bills or food or petrol or kids clubs or anything!

Most people will use savings to pay the deposit or ask friends family.

If you're on £55K can you delay for a month until your next salary payment?

I would assume the majority of people who end up LTB don’t earn anywhere near 55K, but they still manage.

You don’t need to furnish the house straight away. Being safe/ happy is the priority, the rest can come later.
