How much would you need to be paid (before tax) to lose your job tomorrow?

108,000 !! Calculated between now and when I’d retire.

hellospring26 · Yesterday 16:52

For how long until a new job? I need 4.5k / month

LittleGreenDuck · Yesterday 16:57

The bus fare home.

LimesLemonsOranges · Yesterday 17:01

@WellThatIsABitMad how old are you / how many years until retirement?

@hellospring26 that’s a risk you’d have to take….

I would say 80k. I think I might potentially be about to be offered redundancy at slightly less, but I'm torn! I'm 46... but I earn 80k a year plus another 1000 a month in my pension. And we have a huge mortgage still so I'd have to find something else quite quickly.

OriginalPeanut · Yesterday 17:07

£30,000 - that's what I'd get for working until the end of my contract, so if I could get the same money and finish today I'd do that. I have no job security so I'm not sacrificing anything there.

What about you, Op?

To last until I retire? Die? Get another job?
Three very different figures. How about you?

I wouldn't need any. But if you mean what would I want, I was offered around £100k 5 years back and didn't take it because I thought my age would make it difficult to find another job and the modern recruitment process for jobs is such a pantomime that I refuse to participate.

Now I can take my pension in a year so I think maybe £120k might do it. I would be concerned that I would spend a lot of money if I didn't have a job. I do like my job.

Sandandshell · Yesterday 17:20

1.2 mil

GnomeDePlume · Yesterday 17:29

£93,311 approximately 😉. It's how much I am expecting to put into pension & savings over the next 22 months before I retire.

Though 50p and a jam donut might be enough.

afromom · Yesterday 17:33

£1.2m if I am calculating by number of years to retirement (22) at current salary. But I would probably settle for less - maybe £750/£800k I could get by on.

Askandyforcompo · Yesterday 17:37

175k which would be my earnings until I retire. I'm 60 so it's very unlikely I'd get another job.

Sadly, as I'm self employed, nobody is going to offer me anything! I'll just have to soldier on ..

You first OP.

roshi42 · Yesterday 17:57

£1mil post tax - so I guess approx £2 mil before tax! I’m 40 and couldn’t easily get a similar job, especially with how bad I hear it is out there. I’d want enough to pay my mortgage off and sort mine and my daughter’s lives out for the next decade or so - after that I’d have less pressure on getting another job as I could earn way less

LOCOJDS · Yesterday 17:59

10k would do to finish mortgage off but ideally £50k

LimesLemonsOranges · Yesterday 18:51

I don’t know what I would want which is why I ask the question. Redundancy seems rife at the moment.
I’m mid-40s
