If you get private health insurance with disregarded medical history through work, could you please let me know what company you work for?

You don't have to declare any medical history at my work but I'm not going to say where that is. Why do you need to know my employer?

mangobot · 17/09/2026 21:26

I’m looking for a job and due to DH illness need a role that offers private medical insurance with disregarded medical history. Lot of companies publish that they offer private medical insurance to their employees but they don’t provide further information on whether it covers pre-existing conditions.

Depends on sector and role , I know within my company it depends on your role what benefits you get, some get full private medical and others only a gp advice like type benefit

AdidasBadidas · 17/09/2026 21:34

In group insurance medical history is disregarded. However in my policy my husband’s cover is such that for the first 2 years he wouldn’t be covered for any pre-existing condition. I supposed they could find out via our GP. So a bit pointless for your situation.

Sharpkat · 17/09/2026 21:36

I have worked at loads of companies and in all the cover disregarded prior medical history. The only difference I have ever had is the excess amount.

KwellsBells · 17/09/2026 22:31

I work for a Big4. We have excellent medical cover and don’t need to disclose any previous medical history. HOWEVER - it does NOT provide cover for chronic conditions. So depending on your DH’s conditions/diagnosis, he may not be covered anyway.

Same here. Household name financial services.

A lot of them won’t cover family members either

vladimirVsvolodymr · 17/09/2026 23:16

My health insurance covers my entire family of two adults and three kids under 18 up to semi private room in a private hospital. I pay extra for dental insurance and as said previously, medical history is disregarded. Big pharmaceutical company.

mynameiscalypso · 17/09/2026 23:25

Medical history disregarded here too but, like others, it doesn’t pay for chronic conditions.

vodkacran · 17/09/2026 23:27

Mines also disregarded however we don't get it until passed probation. And family isn't included. Also financial services.

MartiniGlassHandbag · 17/09/2026 23:27

I used to work for a PMI provider and the extreme claims costs meant the business made a decision to curb Medical history disregarded until stafg had 1 year service and all family members came on with exclusions. So even of someone comes on and says oh this one offers MHD the terms could have changed since they started...

Thank you. Cancer is treated differently to other chronic conditions. I know it would be covered with at least one insurer.

@KwellsBellsI found this about Big 4 health cover online. Seems to suggest there’s either moratorium or full medical underwriting. I disregarded Big 4 as an option as a result.

You need to check. A previous company wouldn't cover diabetes, normal pregnancy or menopause. So there was no point me having it. But the employer also changed health provider every few years, so what you join for might not stay in place.

I suspect many employers will have been looking where to cut costs, and lower level cover is one way to do it. I hope you find what you want, but take care you're not reducing your job options too much.

HateThese4Leggedbeasts · Yesterday 02:42

Medical insurance premiums are going up insanely quickly at the moment. My work has seen 40% increases this year. I don't think you can base an employment decision on a detail of the policy as many businesses will be reviewing their decisions.

I've never been allowed family cover or disallowed history for my last 3 corporate employers.

  1. Your research skills need work as some of the key info in your table is incorrect - including the actual provider for the firm I work for
  2. You’d be insane to base a decision as to where to work purely on a benefit
  3. Employee benefits packages can be reviewed and amended at any time
  4. I really hope that you are going to practice your interview technique and response to the typical question as to why you want ro work there!! You write as though you’re simply going to be able to easily select a job and be enoloyed. Jobs are very hard to come by at the moment, especially ones with decent medical cover. Firms are going to see straight through your frankly odd criteria.
GarlicSomething · Yesterday 03:30

If you're really hot stuff, you could try making unconditional cover for your DH part of your package.

Otherwise, it's not unlikely the exclusions will be ramped up and you won't be in a position to prevent it, as the provider's contract is with the employer.

WhatNextImScared · Yesterday 05:09

There are almost none with disregarded history. Few things considered chronic are covered. You can’t even buy that kind of cover privately, let along through a company deal

thestraycathouse · Yesterday 06:04

I get cover for me and children with no preexisting….however

i am a relativey senior grade to get that
it has been cut back since I started and expect will be cut back more
surely its a bit pointless asking - the employer needs to have vacancies and your skill set needs to match? someone could tell you company xyz has amazing medial insurance but they may have no jobs that match your skills / be in a completely non workable location.

ForCraftyDuck · Yesterday 06:30

financial services - very common to have medical history disregarded - but whether they pay for family cover will vary by employer. You may have to fund cover for family yourself. Most schemes would cover cancer albeit they incentivise nhs pathways.
