Has anyone dyed their wedding dress dusty pink after the wedding?

have you ever DIY dyed your wedding dress after the wedding? I want to make it dusty pink- any advice?

I have never dyed a wedding dress but I have dyed many other items.
So I'd
Check how hot you can wash the dress it needs to be fairly hot to get the dye to 'fix'
There is likely to be several different types of material, natural fibers will take dye well , synthetic ones won't unles you use two different dyes. You can get specific dyes for some synthetic materials
stitching is often a different material too so that won't take the dye either.

For example I dyed a light blue t-shirt that had blue stitching black.
The t-shirt came out black but the stitch stayed blue ( I loved the look !)

I dyed my wedding dress - a long time ago now so I’m sure the products available will be different.

The big thing to remember is that the different fabrics will all react differently - so fabric covered buttons, laces in a corset, embroidery thread, stitching, lace will all come out slightly different to the colour of the main fabric. I removed all the buttons first, removed some lace, and dyed them separately in a complementary shade that would work for those fabrics.

Also I remember being shocked by how heavy the whole thing was, once it was soaking wet in the bathtub it was surprisingly hard to pick it up and hang it up to dry - at the time we were in a cheep and cheerful rental and when I hung it from the shower rail the whole thing came off the wall (landlord unimpressed).

There are lots of videos on YouTube/tiktok etc showing how people have dyed their dresses so worth investing a bit of time with those to make sure your technique is set up.

Wedding dresses generally are pretty complicated affairs so dying them gets quite complicated!

Thank you! My dress looks gorgeous on, but underneath are a layer that has black mould spots growing around the bottom. It would be £200 to dry clean that doesnt feel worth it and i could probably only sell it for £200 once its clean anyway. RRP is £1500

So i want to find a way to reuse it!

could you just cut off the under layer? it could be worn with a tulle underskirt instead? ebay £20.

No offence OP but its unlikely anyone will buy a home dyed mouldy wedding dress

if it was dyed i would keep it. i would only sell it if it were white and i'm saying due to it's condition i dont think i can sell it.

Could you repurpose a different way? I.e sew something new?

I think cutting out the underskirt would be fine actually, just advertise it as is but comment that if you want a fuller skirt you can add a tulle underskirt?

would they even know it had been cut off? just say “no underskirt”. they can buy one on ebay.

I don’t think the dye will hide the marks and even when dyed it will still look like a wedding dress. Would anyone want to buy a wedding dress that hasn’t been cleaned?

people want a bargain so will get one for under £100 thats uncleaned

They won't. Look on Vinted dresses at very good condition not selling at £20-50, no one will buy a damaged dress.

i bought this uncleaned on vinted for under £100 and have no regrets. The marks on it aren't from me

Could you shorten it and wear it?

why don’t you just bite the bullet and put it in the bath and wash it with gentle baby soap. dry flat over the bath if you have a couple of mesh flat jumper drying racks. ive got radiator hanging racks that i used to spread over the bath to flat dry things but mesh is obv better.

try it on once done and dry, and see if it still fits or has shrunk. or measure it and it the measurements in cm and inches on your advert.

ive hand washed silk before and it came out fine. granted it wasn’t white though it’s worth a go? the dress isn’t perfect now. at least if it’s washed itll be a bit cleaner and not perfect 😂
