Compulsive liars

I work with a woman who is a pathological liar. In the last week she has told two colleagues she’s been to Greece, two more a different part of Greece, another Spain and someone else North Korea with her boyfriend. The truth is that she’s been house sitting while her dad was in Greece. She’s gone into a lot of detail about the holidays.. describing hotels and excursions. When new people start she’ll lie and tell them she’s a supervisor, she also made up a relationship once.
Now none this stuff actually matters I just don’t get why?!? Does she want to be called out, it’s strange how she’s telling people that obviously talk to each other such different stories.
I’ve never came across any one like this before. How would you deal with somebody like this, or would you not, is it best to just ignore it.

I would assume she has psychological problems and take everything she says with a pinch of salt. Not much point in confronting people like this in my experience. It's kind of sad that they feel they have to lie to make themselves seem more interesting - it's insecurity really 😕

It sound very sad actually that she feels she needs to big herself up in this way.

I agree, I think what it boils down to is that she has nothing to talk about.. boyfriends, days out etc so she lies. I get the impression she is very lonely. When she first started she made friends with a few colleagues but they dumped her when it came to light she’d been inventing an entire relationship. She went into such detail and none of it was true so those women kept there distance because they couldn’t trust her (can’t blame them really) It can be quite a social job, with groups that socialize outside of work but the strange thing with this woman is that it doesn’t come across like she likes a lot of us, she can be really snappy and rude.. so obviously not how you make friends.
