Worries about WW3

I know these threads wind people up but im
spiralling. I know I shouldn’t watch the news as there’s nothing I can do but sometimes it’s hard to avoid! I’ve always had a massive fear of nuclear war and I’m really feeling like it might happen. Russia have moved their people out of their embassy in London and putin is making more and more threats. The world is just such a scary place and I’m terrified for my kids growing up in this. Am I being dramatic? Husband just mocks me if I try and talk to him about it.

Russia has withdrawn their ambassador, but they haven't "moved their people out", the embassy is still open.

SilenceInside · 26/08/2026 18:01

If it helps, the ambassador left weeks ago in July. It’s just the usual diplomatic wrangling and is not a sign that nuclear war or WW3 is imminent.

I think being terrified and anxious about your children is a dramatic over reaction. Your husband mocking you is not helpful though. Do you normally have this level of anxiety?

Becuriousnotjudgemental1980 · 26/08/2026 18:20

Yes I’m a very anxious person. This has always been a massive trigger for me. Do you not worry about the state of the world and your kids? Ah right the article I read made me think they had moved everyone out of the embassy. It just scares me that putin is so unpredictable and the PM has pledged more support to the Ukraine so it just makes me even more angsty.

Russia has no reason to start a war with the west at the moment, and tensions have been much worse on many occasions in the past. They also have their hands full with Ukraine at the moment.

LittleGreenShoots · 26/08/2026 18:31

Russia is tired from a long war that's not ending, I am not worried about them starting another on ground war with soldiers. I do however have concerns they will do sneaky cyber attacks and other espionage on our infrastructure because they have been known to before. I am also fairly sure a lot of the accounts posting hate on social media are really bots trying to swing our elections to Reform to create instability in our economy and a puppet of our government. Farage- like Trump- would get into bed with Putin in a heartbeat for the right price. It would be a very bleak future.

AllyOhly · 26/08/2026 18:33

I think Russian posturing has increased because UK manufacturers are supplying drones to the Ukraine.

I wouldn’t be losing sleep over the chance of a war but clearly the situation is more tense than it has been in a while.

SilenceInside · 26/08/2026 18:34

I think about the state of world and the future, of course, but I’m not anxious about it. I also think that any child in the UK has a huge advantage over most other children around the world, so I don’t worry about future unlikely events in relation to them.

Putin has always been unpredictable. He’s not the most dangerous Russian/Soviet leader that there’s been. I am old enough to remember many other Russian leaders and world events, and there is always tension and aggression going on.

LimeShade · 26/08/2026 18:34

Russia are not going to take military action when they can do something like hack us and cause a lot more hassle for less retaliation

SmugglersHaunt · 26/08/2026 19:31

Russia has spent longer than WW1 gaining about a fifth of Ukraine in exchange for the lives of approximately 1.5m soldiers. I don’t fear a ‘hot’ war with them, but I’m sure they’ll dick about with cyber crime etc etc the stupid twats

It is all just posturing and penis waving. Worrying about it will achieve nothing other than to spoil today. I am more concerned about the enemies within.
