2WW referral

I had an ultrasound scan today and as a result need a 2WW referral. The sonographer reassured me it probably wasn’t anything to worry about but that’s easier said than done.

can I get a handhold whilst I wait for an appointment?

<Holding your hand>

Waiting to find out is agonising so you have all my sympathy. It is the case that the majority of 2ww referrals turn out NOT to be cancer, but even knowing that doesn't stop you worrying, if you're anything like me.

Do you want to talk any more about it? It's ok either way.

I work in the NHS so I know most referrals aren’t cancer, but still…

I’m perimenopausal and my bleeding has been a bit erratic, hence the ultrasound. My endometrium is 0.1mm over the threshold for referral so it’s very unlikely to be anything…but very unlikely isn’t the same as 100% definitely not.

That's a tiny amount of thickening. Hopefully nothing to worry about. You are definitely doing the right thing getting it checked out.

How are you doing? Have you got a date yet? Have you had any blood tests done? If not, you might want to ask for some, to include tumour markers.

No appointment yet. I checked the NHS app and it said my referral had been accepted so I will chase on Monday. It’s been a mad week as DS1 got his GCSE results on Thursday so I’ve been preoccupied. Quite a stressful week all round.

It's not been a week yet, so there's still plenty of time, even if the 2ww target is being met in your area. It's probably good that you are keeping busy and haven't had much time to ruminate.
