Being sick everyday for 4 weeks

As the title says. Ive been sick everyday for the last 4 weeks, usually just a little. This time it was quite a bit. Not sure why I was sick as not eaten nice lunch time. I have a doctor's appointment on the 19th for something else. Do I wait till then and talk about it adding to a list of things I have to talk to them about or call 111 in the morning? I'm not pregnant. Pregnancy tests are negative so not sure why I'm being sick. Dont usually get stomach pains with the sickness and nausea but tonight I'm in a fair bit of pain right in the centre of my stomach.

Are you pooing OK, it sounds horrible for you, are you vomiting all the food back up or just liquid.

Think they gave me anti sickness tablets, pick them up layer today. This pain is unbearable. They've given me codeine which i have to pick up later

I'm assuming 15mg tablets of Codeine?
I hope they've advised you on dosage.
If the pain is bad, you can take 2 ( 30mg, assuming they are each 15mg tablets) every 4-6 hours) But...be v careful about constipation! Especially as you're not eating.
When you pick up the codeine and PPI, I would get some Movicol/ Laxido sachets to titrate with the Codeine; you don't want constipation on top of vomiting and abdominal pain!
I'm a nurse practitioner who prescribes, by the way. No need to follow a random poster on the Internet, but hoping it may help, especially as the pain you describe is bad.
How would you describe it out of 10?

You can also take Paracetamol with the codeine( 2, 6 hourly, no more than 8 in 24 hours) Definitely NO Ibuprofen! ( inflames the gut and will make Gastritis worse).

As an ex-nurse I'm horrified by this OP. Please call an ambulance, go back in, and insist on a scan. You need to advocate for yourself.

VeganStar · 15/08/2026 08:00

When I was constantly being sick with dark green almost black vomit. My dd took me to an and e. Id been vomiting for a few weeks but with no pain only acid. Then it got to three or four times a day in the end. It was just before Christmas 2023 and I was trying to hold out so my dd wouldn’t be spending Christmas alone. By Boxing Day I my dd had to take me in. They tried to give me endoscopies but the pipe would only go so far and no further. To cut a very long story short it turned out I had a blockage. It was a cancerous tumour in my duodenum. Which I’ve since had removed and they took half my pancreas as well.
op insist on a scan as the sooner they know what they are dealing with the sooner it can be sorted.
Sending hugs and I hope everything turns out ok for you. 🫂

There will be no gastro doctors at the weekend. They have an A and E doctor making the decision that you’re fine and can blame it on your existing conditions. But, that’s not good enough. You’re not normally sick every day and in constant pain.

Is there another hospital you can go to?

It depends on the hospital. I went to a&e with a bowel blockage on a Saturday morning. Unlike the OP I was scanned, admitted, tubed and saw a gastric surgeon on the Sunday morning.

OP go back and dont let them send you away until you know exactly what is wrong, what needs to happen next (if they dont fix you then and there) and til theyve got the pain and the vomiting under control. You shouldn't have to fight for this bit clearly you have to. Their response has been useless.

Neuronimo · 15/08/2026 08:17

You should at least get some sleep on the anti sickness meds and codeine. Fingers crossed you turn a corner soon OP.

onmylastnerveseriously · 15/08/2026 08:18

Listen to the nurse upthread OP. Take a friend in who is good at influencing people and get them to advocate for you. Can you present at a different hospital maybe? You’ve been treated appallingly

arcoming · 15/08/2026 08:21

You poor thing. Have you had a look at the symptoms for eosinophilic oesophagitis. To either see if that’s it or rule it out?

Isthereanotherplanettoinhabit · 15/08/2026 08:40

I’ve had this OP. I have a hiatus hernia and periodically I get weeks of nausea and a dull ache in my left side mainly, but which sometimes is a central ache. Usually a course of Omeprazole clears it up. I would be reassured that you’ve had an endoscopy and blood tests to rule out anything nasty. See your GP and see what they say. Hope you feel better soon, keep hydrated if you can.

justasking111 · 15/08/2026 08:54

I'm so sorry. You need to find someone to go with you if you can to the hospital. Phone your surgery and get an emergency appointment.

alkwjeoin · 15/08/2026 08:56

Have they tested you for parasites? Ds had it when he was a baby - sick for months but had a parasite which was cleared with antibiotics once they figured it out.

Survivedtheex13 · 15/08/2026 08:56

Hi,

I’m appalled, but sadly not shocked, by how you’ve been treated by the hospital. You really need to have a scan. If you have a bowel blockage prescribing you codeine could be lethal. I know, because this happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I had an upper bowel blockage which could be clearly seen on the scan but sent home with laxido and codeine. Obviously didn’t take the codeine as I know what it does, even my own GP was completely bewildered that they would prescribe that and thankful I didn’t take it. You need to go to a different hospital if at all possible. If not, do as others advised and take someone with you. Hope you get better treatment and feel better soon.

Samysungy · 15/08/2026 09:05

Pseudocyst can cause similar symptoms. If they are growing and sitting on your stomach they can cause vomiting regularly and lots of pain.

HollyhocksandPeons · 15/08/2026 09:26

A&E.

AlwaysExtraHot · 15/08/2026 09:29

This is dreadful. Vomiting for four weeks straight, pain, dropping blood pressure, and they send you home – twice?!?
Do you have a friend or anyone else who can go with you for moral support/to help advocate for you? You must go in again and insist on proper examination.

Orangemintcream · 15/08/2026 09:55

Go to a different hospital if you can.

You know this isn’t normal and they can’t just say it’s your gastritis without an endoscopy and or scan for a blockage.

venmor · 15/08/2026 10:00

Sadly this is not at all surprising to read. I hope the codeine helps, but that’s not an acceptable course of action in any way. Please do go back, or to another hospital if at all possible if these symptoms persist. I’m sorry you have been treated so poorly.

There's is, we have an urgent care one but they'd probably just tell me tge same thing a&e did

I was hospitalised with gastritis. 6 weeks of omeprazole and cocodamol just about did the job. May need to go to the GP to get more gastro resistant meds though as was only given 2 weeks worth initially. Feel for you, it’s agony!

Sorry to hear that. It is awful. Its close to labour pains

Yea i think thats what they prescribed. Be going to get them in a bit as hospital pharmacy was closed when I left. The pain is about an 8 at the moment. I take the pain relief and the pain comes back just as bad

Phone the GP, explain the problem and ask for an urgent appointment. If no joy phone 111.
