UK mobile in Australia

Not sure if I've put this in the right place or not!
We're off to Australia from the UK on Friday and wondered what the most cost effective mobile useage would be? I know I can switch off roaming but that's really annoying as I can't see any messages until I get onto Wi-Fi. I'm with Tesco Mobile so not sure if I can even upgrade to International on my SIM..

I usually use airalo to get an e-sim. Though I’m sure there are other app options.

Thank you, I did have a look at esims but apparently my phone model is too old ☹️

Incoming texts are free I believe. outgoing 40p. Calls and data are megabucks. Buy a PAYG sim when you get there, for local calls and mobile data, use wifi when you can. Whatsapp for messages (and photos) to and from the UK. Imessage should work if you have an internet connection.

If your phone is too old for an eSIM, does it still have a physical sim though? If so, buy a local physical sim when you get there. But remember not to throw yours away when you swap them!

I'm with O2 and could use my phone for the same cost as in the UK when I went to Perth in November 25.

Have gone into a Telstra shop in Australia and found them to be really helpful with older mobiles
