Shower and utility room!

Would you combine a shower and utility room to get the most space or is it a big no?

No, I would prefer a separate space if possible

Really struggling on separating them as the French door needs to be a certain distance (building control), which has now thrown a curveball that utility would be tiny. Literally 1200mm x 1200mm.

Thinking we could separate it with doors to make it look tidy.

If utility just means laundry then that's pretty common in some countries. Also makes sense for dirty laundry but it is unusual in the UK.

Think it would be fine once you got used to it. And only need one extractor fan.

It’s either shoved away in cupboard on the other side of the room or not and squashing washer/dryer un the kitchen.

As you are saying 'we could separate it with doors to make it look tidy.' it sounds like it won't be the same space.

I mean, I'm not sure I'd want to be stepping out of the shower to expose myself through a French Door, so maybe I'm picturing it wrongly ?

I have one, it's small, has a shower, sink, toilet and stacked washer/dryer. Well I suppose it's a continental style bathroom in a way! Builder put it in while I was doing the kitchen and suggested putting the washer.dryer in there too. That has been great. I have never used the shower and it's in three years, (still use main bathroom upstairs), but I did it for futureproofing as I'm getting old now 😊

It's very common in places such as turkey to have the washing machine in the bathroom. Just because it's unconventional doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. If it works for you financially and logistically then go for it.

Quite normal in Aus if there isn’t the space to have them separate.

I seem to remember reading (although may have hallucinated this 😂) that you weren’t supposed to do this because of having electrical items in a bathroom?

As a pp says, I’ve seen this but I don’t think it’s common in the UK, however, I think it’s a GREAT idea! Our utility is huge, contains 3 double cupboards, washing machine, dryer and it would be great to knock through to have the toilet in there. The downstairs loo is teeny.
