Hateful BiL

Had a family gathering at the weekend and my shit of a BiL said my hair made me look like a lesbian. Before I could stop my self, I said well at least I can wear a hat, you can't cover your shitty personality. He then called me a twat, and I said Thank you, I thought I had lost my knack.

Was I wrong? My DH doesn't really stick up for me to his older brother. The brother punishes him by not talking to him and is jealous of him

Tell him to fuck off every time you see him and hopefully he will stay away from you. He’s an arrogant shit who doesn’t like women standing up to him.

Excellent retort. Well done. He sounds like a dickhead.

Only mumsnet could turn this around so you were in the wrong. 😜

Thanks darling x

Good comeback and how people are calling you homophobic is beyond me!

UnimatrixZeroOne · 29/07/2026 20:24

I think it was a bloody witty retort actually.

KookyHen · 29/07/2026 21:42

Laughing my head off here at your comebacks to that bellend@Mamaceita 🤣 You weren’t wrong at all for sticking up for yourself - well played!

Gassylady · 29/07/2026 21:56

Goodfor you for answering back. He seems like the sort to dish it out but not like comebacks

99bottlesofkombucha · 29/07/2026 22:10

He earned it. I’d plan some comebacks that are less juvenile. Perhaps more condescending - ‘ah I see life still isn’t working out for you. Hang in there.’ Or just the shut down ‘indeed?’ ‘Is that so’ or just contentment ‘I’d be a fabulous lesbian’

I normally stay quiet at the crap he puts my DH through, he's a lovely man but cowes down to him. Bout time he got it back and I don't need a man to stick up for me either!

Ha, brilliant! That’s the kind of response I think of hours later, so bloody well done.

I think I’d refuse to spend time with him, he sounds like an absolute arse.

Violetwall · 01/08/2026 19:05

Brilliant response.
10/10.

Let that be your warm up.
Let NOTHING go in future.

My friend had a SIL like that and after nearly dying in an accident said fxxk that she wasn't tolerating anything going forward.

She so much as looked sideways at her, her husband or children, or anyone in her hearing, she was totally going for her.

She was stunned.
She then started telling people that the accident had changed her dangerously.

My friend went with it, didn't care less.
Really got into the spirit of it.
Her SIL is very careful of what she says around her now.

So my advice is let this be your line in the sand moment and continue what you have started.

It will be great for your stress levels to let fly if he says anything to you again.

Well done.

I don't know if it's the heat or menopause but my tolerance for any of this nonsense is at an all-time low.

I would refuse to be where he is, especially if your husband is happy to let him constantly give you shit.

The insult was a bloke just commenting on a woman’s hair…whatever her choice of lifestyle!

I agree about the insult, but sexuality isn't a lifestyle choice
