Endometrial lining 6.7mm

My last period was on Aug 2024, started spotting in July 2025. Since then every four months I had spotting. My last spotting was in March 2026. Each time a few weeks before my spotting I had ovulation symptoms.

I had an US scan in Sep 2025 which showed endometrial lining of 6.7mm so had a hysterscopy. Hysteroscopy found a benign polyp so I was discharged from hospital.

Due to my ongoing spotting I had another US scan today and a hysterscopy next week.

Has anyone had a thick lining but nothing sinister was found? Reassurance needed, please.

(I'm also dreading the hysteroscopy as I nearly fainted last time. They did offer a GA at that time but I declined. Next week I'm going to deline GA but I'm worrying about fainting afterwards, what are my options?)

Are you on HRT? I had a thickened endometrium about 2 years into taking HRT - think mine was about 9. Needed hysteroscopy. Nothing abnormal was found apart from some cysts on my ovary. HRT can sometimes cause benign thickening.

I had a GA. There’s no way I’d have had the procedure without it but if you really don’t want one then ask about mild sedation instead?

Hope all goes well for you.

Carsexitthroughthecarpark · 24/07/2026 05:51

Hi op. I had mine under GA as my private gynae won't do them without.

Given the pain I was in after I woke up, I would never ever do it without GA again, despite hating GA!

Also my endometrial lining was 6mm and nothing was found. The Mirena wasn't quite enough but gynae said it would settle (on HRT too)

AlgaeDreams · 24/07/2026 05:52

I've been told not to take any hormones until my 2 benign polyps are removed.
I am post menopause and like you have had a hysteroscopy and biopsy. My lining is currently about 2.5mm which is more than it should be but hoping all calms down post polypectomy.
6.5 seems a lot. Are you on any hormones? My problems started as was given oestrogen with NO progesterone 🙄

The polyps will need to be removed otherwise you're likely to keep bleeding.

My bleeding is horrendously heavy and I'm hoping polypectomy will fix it. If not I'm going to push for a hysterectomy.

Can you ask if they'll remove the polyps whilst doing the hysteroscopy? It would make sense to do so. Mine wasn't too bad, I took codeine, paracetamol and ibuprofen! But I kniw know we're all different.
Once it's done, don't feel rushed at all. Even though I didn't think mine was too bad, I still burst into tears once out!

AlgaeDreams · 24/07/2026 05:56

Oh crikey maybe 6.5 isn't too bad at all then. All I know is that mine went from 0.9 to 2.5 and bleeding for about 18 months now even though ovaries defunct.
Severly anaemic and fainting in daily life so I did well to come out and just cry!

scaredysquiggle · 24/07/2026 06:18

I have had multiple ultrasounds and a hysteroscopy under GA. Diagnosed with thickened endometrial lining but biopsies all negative.

Gynacologist has put me on Provera for a year as she said she doesn’t want me to bleed at all in that time. The year is almost up so we will see what’s next

Delilah1234 · 24/07/2026 06:33

I had some bleeding 9 months after stopping the mini pill. The scan showed endometrium was 8mm. The hysteroscopy was normal. I had gas and air and then penthrox. Neither really worked. I dropped my blood pressure and vomited afterwards. Reassuring to know that I’m not the only one! If I ever need another I will be going for a GA.

BobaTea · 24/07/2026 08:45

@AlgaeDreams yes they removed the polyp and it was benign. The womb lining biopsy did not show any abnormalities.

I'm not on HRT or mini pills. No medication.

I'm declining GA because I hate being put to sleep. Can I take paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time?

BobaTea · 24/07/2026 08:47

@scaredysquiggle are you on HRT?

Lottapianos · 24/07/2026 08:55

OP, they should offer you local anesthetic in your cervix. I'm having a hysteroscopy and biopsy next week and they offered me a choice of GA, gas and air or local. Will take paracetamol and ibuprofen beforehand as well. Please ask for local anaesthetic rather than relying on painkillers only

My endometrium is 7.4mm and the consultant isn't overly concerned. I've been on HRT for 2 years. They're going to insert a Mirena coil during the procedure as well

AllTheChicken · 24/07/2026 08:55

You can take ibruprofen and paracetamol at the same time if needed, but then it's best to alternate them to have better coverage time wise. They might give you a short course of codeine for recovery perhaps

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 24/07/2026 08:57

My scan said 10.6 and that it was fine

BobaTea · 24/07/2026 08:59

Thanks. I will ask for a local. They didn't offer it last time.

Adenomyosis causes a bulky uterus

@scaredysquiggle are you on HRT?

No

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 25/07/2026 06:55

I am about to have a hysteroscopy next week with a thickness of 8mm under the 2ww. After reading so many people’s comments elsewhere about how painful it is, I immediately asked for a GA. If that’s not something you want then I’d certainly be taking something a bit stronger than paracetamol. See what over the counter meds you can get to help you like cocodamol.

TickedOffAndALittleFedUp · 25/07/2026 07:43

@BobaTea i suggest you che k re the ibuprofen. I was advised not to take it as it increases risk of bleeding.

BobaTea · 26/07/2026 18:05

@Phonicshaskilledmeoff should be under 5mm if postmenopausual?

OP posts:
BobaTea · 27/07/2026 22:08

I'm not on HRT so it's a worry that my lining is thick.

I've had a US scan last Thursday. The sonographer only asked when was my last period and that I have fibroids (which I'm aware of from the previous scan). He didn't say anything about how thick my lining is.

OP posts:
BobaTea · 01/08/2026 21:25

My recent US scan showed lining 6.3mm (went down from.6.7mm).
Had a hysterscopy and consultant did not see any abnormalties. Now waiting for the result of biospy.

I expressed my concern regarding the thickness of 6.3mm, she said for postmenopausal it should be under 4mm but she is not worried.

Has anyone had a lining of over 4mm (postmenopausal and not on HRT)?

OP posts:
Jopo12 · Yesterday 00:26

My lining was just over 7mm and they weren't worried. I also had a hysteroscopy but didn't have any issues with it at all. I also had a benign polyp and they did a smear test while they were in there.

BobaTea · Yesterday 07:39

@Jopo12 that's reassuring to hear.

Is it nornal to have spotting/bleeding on and off after the procedure, along with mild period like pain?

I had spotting on the first day of procedure. None on Friday and Saturday. Today I have spotting again.
