Advice needed. My son is taking part in his gold expedition very soon. He has had a growth spurt and his trousers no longer fit. Any recommendations for trousers for this hot weather and also ones without to many seams as he has suffered badly with chaffing in the past, he does have eczema.

I got some from Vinted that are trousers that unzip at the knees to become shorts which reduced the clothes needed to be packed. Would look on Vinted as some hiking clothes can be £££

My son's was from Patagonia.

Might be worth getting him some liquid talc to use. It helps prevent chafing. Less than £2 so if it doesn't work it isn't that expensive of an experiment!

Get down to Go Outdoors and have a look at their lightweight walking trousers. Their own brand/entry level “label” is Trek Mates, North Ridge or Peter Storm. They’ll be fine, if the seams work for him. Craghoppers, Sprayway and Berghaus are a step up, and Patagonia, Arkteryx, Fjall Raven a step too far for DoE.

There will be some styles where the lower leg zips off and turns the trousers into shorts, but if he has sensitive skin he might not want that. He should wear long trousers when walking in long grass regardless, to keep ticks off him
(they carry Lymes disease).
