High B12 - anyone has the same?

My B12 came back as 1016 ng/l.

I was taking a multi vitamin with B12 2.5ug two weeks before the blood test.

Three to four weeks before blood test, I had a cold virus.

All my blood results are normal.

Do you think my high B12 is anything to worry about? GP said to retest in 3 months.

Mine was slightly higher than yours, but all my other results (blood count, liver etc) came back fine. It wasn't raised as an issue by my doctor.

I put it down to eating eggs pretty much daily and taking hair supplements which contained B12. I did stop the hair supplements after though, as I didn't want the level to keep increasing.

Edited - just checked the supplements I took and they contained B12 20ug, so quite a bit higher than yours.

Yes, 2 eggs provides just slightly under the daily NHS recommended intake of B12

Other foods such as beef, salmon, sardines, milk and cheese are also quite high.

My B12 supplement is the required daily amount so not sure why it caused the result to be out of range.

If I remember correctly, you’re meant to stop B12 weeks before a blood test. I think 2 weeks may not have been enough time.

I get b12 tested each year as part of my bloodwork for coeliac.

Last year, it was so high, it was over what they measure for so who knows what it actually was.

The dietician didn’t care. She spoke to the consultant, he didn’t care. All other bloods were normal. They said no need to retest, just as normal in 12 months.

I’ve just had those, it’s still high but under the maximum now.

I’ve never supplimented B12.

She said they see if often, some people just have really high B12. If other bloods are okay, no one cares.

B12 has low toxicity and is water soluble so comes out in urine and no upper limit specified
i’ve got a supplement with 1000ug. No issues
