Don't want to undress during Cardiology appointment

How can I avoid going completely topless in a Cardiology check up?

Is removing the bra entirely necessary?

Is it optional?

What difference does it make?

What happens if the patient can't undress for religious reasons?

There are multiple religions with branches where women are brought up to value modesty as an essential. That could be extremely devout Christian, Jewish or Muslim women. For those women, it would feel deeply uncomfortable for their bodies to be exposed unnecessarily. There are many other circumstances where women would prefer not to be unnecessarily exposed - some older women, some larger women, some women who've been sexually abused. Good practice in healthcare would respect this.

But the PP asked what religion doesn’t allow it?

Thanks, agree with this.

That's not what I said @INX

Not what who said, sorry I’m confused?

If you were referring to my last post, I said a ‘PP’ asked it, not ‘OP’.

You’ll either wear a gown and they will discreetly go underneath it or you can roll your top up into a long roll shape and put it over your boobs.

FourSevenFour · 06/07/2026 21:30

If the religion is trying to stop you from having a normal health care, ditch the religion, or just find a better branch within your faith. You are more important than inflexible interpetation of old books.

In my country christian nuns visit male doctors including gynaecologists and the God hasn't imploded yet.

I've had ECGs before while wearing a non wired bra.

An echocardiogram was done without a bra but I was able to keep my shirt on (unbuttoned at the front).

The previous appointment with a Cardiologist was naked from the waist up. She listened to my chest with a stethoscope but did nothing that couldn't have been done with the bra on.

The next appointment is a review with another Cardiologist.

I’m quite surprised they didn’t give you a gown to pop on and only undo and expose as necessary. I don’t know anything about cardiology but that was my experience in recent treatment for breast cancer.

Bunnyfuller1 · 06/07/2026 21:33

CPR is bra off….ain't no one thinking about your size/shape/religion/past.

Beachbeach · 06/07/2026 21:34

I’m surprised people are willing to risk their health for a bit of non nudity. Surely your health is worth that??

KateSixer · 06/07/2026 21:35

What's so unusual about your breasts?!

Fandangydo · 06/07/2026 21:35

Apologies, ignore the previous comment @INX

@FourSevenFour That made me smile. It's entirely my decision though, it's not coercive.

I've never been offered a gown in any of the appointments so far. I'll request one next time.

I used to do a lot of ECGs for CAMHS for young girls with eating disorders. I would always give them a blanket to cover themselves with and always allowed them to keep some sort of top on. It can be done with dignity. I wouldn't want to be exposed from the waist up either so I understand.

Well, in this scenario the patient would either be unconscious or worse so I don't think it's really comparable!

You sound wonderfully caring @Halloumicheeseislife and I'm sure those young girls appreciated your actions.

Wear a lounge bra (soft triangle no wires) and a button down shirt and a vest top this give a variety of optionz a crop top is pretty full coverage

I burn my chest badly. I had to go to hospital and it was so painful I couldn’t wear bra but had this soft triangle bra that was quite low cut and help me immensely. I could be examined and so on. I’d not got help for week think it would get better but it was infected!! One day on antibiotics and the pain lifted- it was a miracle!

Wear a very loose top or t shirt and a non wired bra , that’s what I’ve done in the past .
i was never naked from the waist up 🤔 in a cardiology appointment.
one appointment I was given a gown that opened at the front , another appointment the nurse lifted my baggy t shirt , placed the pads

Fandangydo · 07/07/2026 21:56

Thanks for the info and suggestions. I'm going to go wearing a soft bralette, cami and button down shirt. Hopefully one of those can stay on!

I’ve had some totally topless but most have been with bra still on.
