Neighbours and my garden.

I don’t know how to approach this. We are in a row of terrace houses. The gardens all back onto à lane. All gardens have a gate out to the back lane. Newish neighbours have covered their back gate for safety im
guessing and they have a dog. Three times now I’ve been in the kitchen to see random blokes using my gate to come in from the back lane walk through my garden to get to next doors garden. And they leave the gate open every time! I’m right that this is cheeky fuckery aren’t I?? I’m right to want to go and tell them to stop doing it. Who does that without asking if it’s ok?? I told their kid I didn’t mind if he comes in to retrieve balls but that doesn’t mean please use my garden however you bloody wish does it?!

A padlock is the answer.

Why would you not have that gate locked anyway to prevent burglaries?

Seems like this is easily solved with a lock tbh, and that would be sensible for security anyway!

Tell their kid that you’ll throw balls back over the fence to him when you see them.

It’s a low gate so people could just jump over it to be fair! I think I’ll look into a bigger gate with a lock. A bit aggrieved that I should have to though. Lived here 18 years and this has never happened before. So no one thinks they’re being cheeky fuckers??

There’s a shared ginnel between the houses we have a gate to get into it and so do they. So they come through the garden out into the ginnel and through their side gate.

I think everyone thinks they’re being CFs but the answer is still a lock on the gate.

So you have two gates in your garden, one into a road at the back of all the properties, and another to a narrow alley (?) that runs between yours and your neighbours houses? And you haven’t put a lock on either of them?

I think bigger gates and locks are the answer. I just hate that I have to spend money because they have no boundaries! Honestly I’ve never known less considerate people. I wouldn’t dare just use someone else’s garden as a thoroughfare gates or not!

Yeah never had to in 18 years of living here. Old neighbours were elderly and the gate at the front into the ginnel is always locked. Doesn’t mean every random cheeky fucker gets to use my garden as a thoroughfare.

It isn’t relevant what the old neighbours did or didn’t do though. You describe these neighbours as ‘newish’. So just put locks on your gates.
