Intensive driving lessons

I'm considering starting my driving lessons again after a few years break. I previously did quite a few manual lessons but didn't really get anywhere near to even considering taking a driving test. I think an automatic would be better for me so I don't have to worry about the clutch. I don't know anyone who can teach me to drive in between lessons so I'm wondering if an intensive course might be worth it in my situation. Anyone had any experience of intensive lessons?

Is it only the not driving between lessons that is making you consider intensive. All of my 4 only had lessons with an instructor.

Will you be driving regularly after? My DS did an intensive course and passed, but as he didn’t own a car for years I was worried he didn’t have very much on the road driving experience to consolidate.

Realistically intensive lessons are meant for someone who has had a lot of lessons but never took their test so more of a refresher. That is exactly how it is advertised locally to me.

I would just book with an instructor who offers automatic driving lessons. Usually lessons are 2 hours long. I had one child pass and they also practised using my car in between their instructor lessons. My other child passed with no extra driving due to a car change for me. When you are ready to test your driving instructor will let you know to book it.

You can learn a lot from driving instructor videos on Youtube so you can learn the theory of it, lanes, positioning etc then use it in your lessons. Conquer Driving first, Richard is fantastic, then mock tests from Conquer Driving and also DGN, Driving School and Clearview Driving. They voice over what they do well and what they should do if they do it wrong. Also watch Ruby Dash Cam which shows you dash cam footage of near misses and actual crashes. This helps show you why it goes wrong.
