Mumsnet used to be a really good place to get advice and help from or even seek some support emotionally and mentally for nasty situations some people find themselves in, when life can be challenging and have a sudden change of circumstances and different paths which most of the time is no fault of their own.

Seems as though now it’s all about judging people, making nasty remarks, assumptions and just plain rudeness from strangers who have nothing better to do than troll these forums who put 1 and 4 together and get 9 and start victim shaming or delving into things that aren’t even relevant or related to the original posters post. A lot are very quick to jump in and even start making remarks about personal life’s that they know nothing about.

Then there is the spelling and grammar police who also have to make a show and correct sentences and words and judge them for the way they write on forums too. I just don’t understand it? Then the people who slag off the single mums and tarnish them all with one brush not knowing how they come about their situation, when everyone’s circumstances can change, you have the ones who read a post and completely blow the whole thing out of proportion which starts a debate about something that wasn’t even there.

I thought this forum was meant for advice in all categories/ criteria’s, Without passing judgements and opinions? When someone is asking for help and advice.

And yes I know there are different forums to post in about certain things and some are for debates and opinions but I’ve seen a lot of this in forums that are not meant for that and people just being shitty for no reason.

I’m afraid that everywhere online is the same - all fora attract keyboard warriors, cowards and trolls. If you look past them there is a lot of good sense and good advice in between the batshit crazy and the deliberately goady and the snooty and superior.

One thing I’d take exception to, though - I’ve been around here for a long time and I’ve never seen any vitriol towards single mothers here - rather, posters tend to be very quick to recommend that women leave relationships which are unhealthy even if it means bringing up their children alone.

There are both dickheads and nice people everywhere, and people are more likely to be arseholes on line than in real life where they would probably face actual consequences

The main boards on any popular forum are always a bit crazy, it's the niche sections you get the actual advice and support and find your people ime

Yes I agree! most people on here are stuck up rude and petty. And don’t even get me started on the snooty spelling police lol but I always find theres more idiots online, there just bored little trolls that like to feel on a power trip behind a screen poor sods lol.

MN is heading down the twitter route. So many replies are uncalled for, you can see an increase is “this comment has broken guidelines” comments. I’m considering leaving the site due to it all.

Just hide the AIBU board and your feed will improve significantly. That's a cesspit but, hey, good for the engagement (£££££🫰🫰🫰).

I certainly don't think the unpleasantness is confined to the AIBU board @SwedishEdith.
I find the cliquish unpleasantness on boards such as Style and Beauty and even on Chat can be every bit as bad as anything on AIBU.

It’s full of Elevenerifes! I do 30,000 steps before breakfast; I easily eat 40g of fibre a day & 100g of protein; I always get 10 portions of f&v in. My dc could talk at 2 months & was reading in the womb; I do a marathon every week; I work f/t, have a side hustle, cook from scratch & still have time for 5 hobbies; I can get my head through my legs & back around again, etc, etc. It’s somewhat tiresome.
