Best eye drops for dry eyes

I like hycosan extra, I find the applicator easy to use and easily gives a measured dose.
whichever you choose, make sure you get preservative free.

Ladybird69 · 29/06/2026 12:21

My optician recommended hycosan drops.

Blueuggboots · 29/06/2026 12:54

I agree. Hycosan are great.

I use Hylo brand. You can buy Hylo dual for about 15 quid and a bottle lasts a while, though mine atm was given to me by a university hospital after eye surgery (along with several other sorts of drops, one of which is called FML which mildly amuses me given what fml can stand for)

Have you seen an optician? There are different types of dry eye, you could use all the eye drops in the world but benefit more from a warm compress.

McGuire · 03/07/2026 19:36

Thank you. I have had cataracts removed from both eyes 4 months ago. Were fine before but dry all the time now. Hospital not much help but will try warm compu

Just FYI Hylo and Hycosan are the same brand - the drops are ,eg ,HyloDual from the hospitals or on prescription, and Hycosan Dual on the High Street. No idea why 😁
But they are good.I would use them regularly for a few weeks and if that doesn’t help see your Optometrist.

Thank you so much

I use Hycosan. Also have purchased a heated eye wand

abracadabra1980 · 03/07/2026 21:39

Could you poss post a link to the eye wand? I'm demented with my dry eyes - I have blepharitis and post menopause i feel like they are made of sand after 9.30pm. It's almost like they are on a timer at night-I don't think scrolling helps one bit either... tried all sorts of drips, gels and masks. Nothing stands out as fantastic. Good luck finding some relief OP.

It takes a while to get used to the application but I would really recommend hycosan night or hylo night. It’s a thick eye ointment, but makes your eyes feel much more refreshed. I really notice if I haven’t used it now. It’s weird to say but it’s been a game changer!

Similar sufferer here.
HRT has (surprisingly) also improved things. If that helps anyone.

Tcateh · 04/07/2026 08:59

Hycosan night ointment is also great B4 bed.

I very occasionally use a little bit in the day time if I'm not going anywhere or driving.

But not often and I wouldn't use the drops alongside on those days.
Hth

MyThreeWords · 04/07/2026 09:04

Agree that Hycosan Night is very useful indeed, much more soothing than the other Hycosan products.

Since it is meant for night-tine use, you can't do anything that requires your eyes for a good five or ten minutes after applying it. And of course you shouldn't use it if you are going to drive. But with those caveats, it is really helpful for daytime use, as well as at night.

I also bought Hycosan Intense at the same time. I'm sure this will be helpful too, but given the expense I partly wish I hadn't.

Pinkflowers19 · 04/07/2026 09:10

Hycosan shield, heated eye mask daily and the eye doctor eyelid wipes. Takes a few weeks but has completely cured mine.

LadyChilli · 04/07/2026 09:10

A warm compress is definitely a good idea. It helps unblock the glands where moisture is released in your eyes - tears are only part of the picture. I use an Optase compress on the advice of my optician and it really makes a difference. You might even notice the oily film over the surface of your eye for a few minutes after using it.

Hello, I also have Bletharitus and dry eyes. Several times daily, I run hot water onto a face cloth . I press the cloth over my eyes for a minute. Then I press downwards with a dry gauze to release the fluid from the spots. Then wipe around my eyes with a damp swab. This process has gradually given me relief over the past few weeks and my eyes are improving. It's the heat that loosens the oil. Hope this helps.
