Should I cook the steak?!

A few days ago I bought myself some steak for a treat tonight. Unfortunately i ended up in an awful traffic jam on way home - was 3 hours from when I took steak out of shop fridge till I put it in my fridge. It's in date. Looks fine. Would you eat it? I'm a worrier! It's not been that warm here.

Of course.

I wouldn’t worry if sealed in packaging and transferred straight from bag to fridge. As long as you didn’t leave it in a hot car in the sun (say parked up and nipped out).

You don’t cook this straight from the fridge anyway - salt, pepper and pummel it with a mallet. Make sure it’s a bit more on the done side than rare.

Beef mince from a butcher should be used quite quickly but a supermarket steak will be fine. If unsure just slice it into pieces to ensure it’s fried through. I wouldn’t grill it in the oven.

Of course it’s fine. I leave mine out to defrost before work in the mornings, go out for 11 hrs then I eat it blue. Never ever been sick

Yup. It will be fine

Thanks so much for the replies. I ate the steak. I survived!! Thank you..

I'm now wondering about sausages and pigs in blankets that were in the same bag. Do I need to throw those out? Thanks.

No!

bigsoftcocks · 20/06/2026 17:47

Surely they kept each other cold? Unless you left car parked in sun for that 3 hrs it will be fine

backformoreofthesame · 20/06/2026 17:56

I think you have something between 4 and 6 hrs to get food home and in a fridge so should all be ok

DoAWheelie · 20/06/2026 17:59

There are plenty of people who live a 2+ hour drive from a supermarket around the world and they are not all getting sick on a regular basis.

TheRozzers · 20/06/2026 18:00

Steak is much nicer cooked from room temperature

No!

😂

Thank you!! This is excellent news. Yes, they were all together and it wasn't sunny.

Pigs in blankets will also be ok.
