Could someone clever tell me what security camera to get?

I've been advised by the police to get a camera because of the behaviour of one of our neighbours. My son suggests we don't get one that relies on a subscription, but his alternative approach (involving a raspberry pi?!) seems very complicated and frankly I just want something simple that will record for evidence and also so I can watch it on my phone.
Can anyone recommend any particular brand or set-up? Am thinking about Tapo as they seem inexpensive but I am lost.
It's hard enough trying to understand where it should be mounted and how to drill the hole for the cable, so I was wondering about getting a window-mounted one but are they any use at night or does the infrared reflect off the glass?

I 've got 3 Tapo cameras OP.
I got the first because of problems with vandalism and antisocial behaviour by the local children. I put it on my bedroom windowsill at the front of the house upstairs. It covers my hedge and part of the front garden and the path up to my front door. I then got another to put on my downstairs windowledge to cover the side garden and passageway to the back of the house. Then I got the third for my kitchen windowsill to cover most of the back garden. I have them all slightly raised - upturned vases and in the case if the bedroom its on a wooden sill shelf - to get better coverage.

I 've got SD cards for them all so its possible to download incidents when necessary. I have to say they aren't 100% reliable and don't necessarily pick up everything. But overall they have been a godsend for me. I've been able to pass recordings on to the police to identify trouble makers and it's good to be able to keep an eye on what's happening.

For the money they are great. You will be able to get better security cameras but I do find the Tapo ones quite effective and useful.
