Amazon age verification problem

I’m trying to buy an age restricted product on Amazon. I’ve filled in the verification with my card details at least 50 times. All details are correct but it just won’t let me proceed. I had the same issue when buying cutlery a few months ago. It’s SO frustrating 😡. Anyone had a similar issue? I’m currently waiting to speak to an actual human being (20 mins and counting!)

Have you tried a different payment method? I think this happened to me and it processed immediately with a different card.

I’ve only got one card! DH has tried his card and had the same issue.

If you check the card in the Payments section of your Amazon account, does it still need verification?

Happened to me too. I was buying a bread knife. I couldn’t make it work, so I ordered it from John Lewis.

I’ll check the card. Thank you. We ended up buying cutlery from Tesco.

Yeah I had this with a craft knife. Gave up and went to hobbycraft instead.

would have thought the fact I’ve had an Amazon account for 20 years would give indication I am over 18 😂

PippiLongStockingsPigtails · 31/05/2026 18:12

Nope. The card is verified as far as I know. I’ve used it plenty of times previously.

Same here. Tried to buy a bread knife but amazon couldn't verify my age despite buying knives previously. Amazon told me it was a bank problem. Bought elsewhere.

PippiLongStockingsPigtails · 31/05/2026 18:19

So it’s let me buy another item (more expensive - of course!). Didn’t even ask for verification 🙄. So bloody annoying. I’d buy irl but wouldn’t know where to get (an electric foot file! 😆)

You'd think so. I have an ipad that I use occasionally and when the age verification was introduced it immediately said no need, you've been with us for ages.

Alwayssupportingdifference · 31/05/2026 19:06

I had this with some knives. I used the help feature and was chatting with an actual helpful person who guided me through the process. Impressed, try it. NB your account and card and order have to have exact same name, thy stayed online till I got the order through.

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 31/05/2026 19:10

I had the same problem when trying to buy some knives. I would have expected my bank to verify I am over 18 as I've had my account for over 30 years. Anyway I was pleased as I ended up getting much nicer ones in The Range.

Same here, was trying to buy a cutlery set for DIL, couldn’t get past the age verification, and like a pp i have had an account with them for more than 18 years. Annoying

PippiLongStockingsPigtails · 31/05/2026 19:24

I’ve checked and doubled checked my details. I recently got married but all cards and accounts are in my new name. Someone answered my chat but went as the chat was ‘inactive’. Probably the five mins I was posting on here! I‘m still waiting now for a reply. There’s an issue in the systems apparently. I’ve been waiting since 17.40.

This exact thing has happened to me and my husband this weekend. Will let us buy alcohol because we've done it before but we really need a new bread knife and wouldn't let either of us buy it! We haven't found a solution yet.

PippiLongStockingsPigtails · 31/05/2026 19:30

I’m glad it’s not only be. But wow it’s so annoying! We’ve also had an Amazon account for ages.
