Where can I buy cotton socks?

Just as the title says really….

I have found the % polyester in socks to be creeping up over the years, and sorry I know it’s gross but it makes my feet super sweaty.

Where can I buy white trainer socks with a high % cotton?

I’ve checked the likes of M&S, Next, Primark etc but not had much luck.

The Sockshop?

google it. You may find bamboo better for you

100% cotton socks wear through very quickly, and don’t hold their shape well, which is why they are rare, but I am sure I bought some from Morrison’s last summer. Community Clothing socks are excellent, hard wearing, and do have a synthetic content but I don’t find them hot or sweaty These.

Bamboo and viscose however, are far too warm for my feet (and the rest of me).

Google isn’t much help unfortunately as even cotton rich socks seem to have polyester in them these days

We bought DS some nice socks in TK Maxx and they weren’t terribly expensive. I think they were bamboo but they had loads of different types.

muddyford · 03/05/2026 19:54

I bought some on eBay. I think they were intended for diabetic feet. Bamboo is even worse for the environment than cotton.

Ask ChatGPT.

Agree with you, high cotton content used to be about 75% years ago and now is less than 40%. I live in hope one day I will find them but I don’t think it will be in the high street.
There are shops that sell organic clothes, I wonder if they would sell them. The one local shop that is focused in organic clothing is just for babies.

Not sure why you are having an issue. Just google 100% cotton socks for women. They seem to have 42 choices in Next alone!

I don’t understand how you are finding these. If I google for cotton socks, it brings up socks marketed as cotton get further investigation shows a high % polyester.

This is a bit left field, but you actually need wool socks to stop your feet feeling sweaty. Wool can hold about 30% its own weight in water before it feels damp, it’s why hiking socks are best if they are wool. It’s also tends not to smell if
Look for merino wool socks, and if you can knit try hand knitted socks as they are the best things ever. The nylon in them makes then hard wearing, but doesn’t affect how sweaty they make you feel.
I wear wool socks year round and never have sweaty feet.
Try some.
I don’t know who to recommend as I knit my own for every day use, but my hiking socks are Bridgedale and my ski socks Smartwool

My socks don’t last nearly as long as they used to. Holes form very quickly, no matter where I buy them!

Hedgehogsaremyjam · 10/05/2026 13:27

Marks and Spencer used to so them not sure if they still do

PlainSkyr · 10/05/2026 14:38

I struggle with this too. None of the websites even state the fabric composition! I’ve taken to buying only in person after physically checking the material. I’ve only found some in brands like ASICS, SweatyBetty etc. None at retailer shops. Bamboo also feels ok but is a bit warm compared to cotton

I'm with you on this OP and much preferred the socks of the twentieth century!

The thing is I've tried 100% cotton socks and they're not right either. You need a bit of give/stretch that the manmade fibres allow in my experience.

If you look on eBay you can find some Pringle brand socks with 75% cotton content
