What on earth is biting my child? Please help

For the last 2 months, an insect has been biting my child. Will happens about once a week. In clusters.

start off as hives then can see the puncture mark. They go all hard and red/swollen. Tbh they look horrific. I took to doctors they just said anti histamines.

i boil washed all bedding, hoovered within inch of my life their room/matteress everything. I’ve had all white bedding on, absolutely no signs at all of bed bugs. Not even little blood marks. Nothing.

im absolutely stumped. I do have a cat who is flea treated with prescription stuff.

had anyone else had this before? It’s so upsetting. No one else is getting bitten in the house either?

all parts of body too. Groin, arms, legs. shoulders. Exposed and non exposed, it’s just so odd.

Please help :( or even tell me what I should do?

I have the exact same mystery atm. I'm beginning to think midges and DC must have a sensitivity to them

Arregaithel · 01/05/2026 23:26

do these images look the same @troutfish?

If so, it isn't unusual for only one member of the family to be affected.

You can pick up insect repellent patches on Amazon. My DD is getting eaten alive on the school field, these patches have stopped that.

Your child might be allergic to mossie bites.

Get a nit comb and comb the cat. I bet you find fleas. We flea treat our cat once a month and I comb him every couple of day. Always find a couple.

Fleas. My DC had this too, ours were in the carpet. Indorex fixed it.
We don't even have any pets but the lady who lived here before us had a cat.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 02/05/2026 14:07

It will be fleas. Get Indorex and ask the vet for Brave to if you're using Advantage at the moment ( shit stuff in my experience, absolutely useless)

Piggywaspushed · 02/05/2026 14:16

I have this too . Its driving me mad. Indorexed everything, cat's fleas gone. My bites are in places that fleas normally bite but I also have some in places bedbugs bite. Like you, no visible bed bug signs. No one else has been bitten. I have got desperate and bought a steam cleaner. My clothes won't wash at 60 . Its actively distressing, I agree.

Point a hairdryer at the mattress, if it's bedbugs, the warmth will draw them out.

I'd shut the cat out of that room, hoover behind all the furniture and spray the place liberally with either Indorex or Nope. That shit kills anything that crawls.

Including bed bugs??
