Chocolate gifts for teachers - avoid nuts?

Hi just posting to see what others do here. Want to send some boxes of choc for DD’s teachers at end of term. Would you avoid mixed boxes of chocs that have some nutty ones? Or ok to send as they’d be sealed and I wouldn’t expect them to be opened at school?

I’d avoid nuts if you can - family members may have allergies.

Goinggonegone · 29/04/2026 19:29

The teachers themselves could have nut allergies! Plenty of adults do.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 29/04/2026 19:32

I wouldn't think its an issue. If they don't like nuts or have nut allergies they won't eat them. If they can see it contains nuts they won't eat it on school property. I'd say it's more likely to be consumed at home anyway.

TeacheeTeacherson · 29/04/2026 19:38

I’m a teacher (see username!) and I don’t mind getting chocs with nuts at all. It does mean I have to wait to get home to start scoffing but that’s not a bad thing!

ShetlandishMum · 29/04/2026 19:43

I don't. If they don't like it they can hand it to another teacher/friend/whatever.
I am often gifted chocolade but don't eat dairy. I am always happy for the gift and my husband even happier.

Ok thank you for your replies! I will see what I can get

I'd also send only dark chocolates, as a vegan won't appreciate milk chocolates.

But a non-vegan with a sweet tooth would despise dark chocolate 🤷‍♀️

A non-drinker wouldn't want wine, a hayfever sufferer might not want flowers, an eczema sufferer wouldn't want toiletries....yada yada yada

The teacher will appreciate the gift, even if they can't use it themselves. They'll regift to someone out of school or swap with another staff member. Any chocolate is fine, nuts or no nuts. The only thing I'd 100% stay clear of is a teacher mug or similar tat.

chocolateaddictions · 29/04/2026 23:05

I wasn’t really asking about the personal preference of teachers - you’ll never please everyone - it was more a question of whether it is ok to send in a box of chocs to a school which might have chocolates with nuts, when you are not supposed to send things with nuts to school.

It sounds like this is ok as the teacher unlikely to consume at school and the box would be closed / sealed.

Really? Surely there are more people who like milk chocolate / eat dairy than there are vegans!

I would avoid bringing nuts into school. We would be allowed to. There are literally hundreds of chocolates without nuts, why would you choose nuts when there are so many other options?

If you get a box of chocolates there’s always a few with nuts

No there aren’t! There are loads of chocolates without nuts. Leonidas, Monty Bojangles, etc. I’ve just had a quick google and there are literally hundreds of boxes of chocolates that don’t contain nuts at all price points.

Superscientist · 01/05/2026 08:43

I would ask. I would like to get you a gift at the end of the year. If I got you some chocolates, would you be you ok if they contained nuts and dairy?

Seashor · 04/05/2026 21:08

Don’t send chocolates with nuts into school please. There’s absolutely no need to and it can cause problems.

I agree. I was a teacher and wouldn't give it a thought. They wouldn't be handing them out to children at school and if there was anyone with allergies at home they'd check the label.
