Grants for disabled people. Who to ask?

I was wondering if anybody knows of any grants for people with disabilities, & particularly if there are any that I can apply for myself?

I found a few on 'Lightning reach' but they all need a referral.
Very upsetting phonecall with CAB resulting in them telling me that a grant will not help me & my spending is out of control.

A lot of the grants say that the GP can help but how does this work in practice?
It's hard enough to get an appointment at all now, I can't see them spending their time filling in grant applications for their patients?

Who else can I ask?

Thank you, if anybody has any ideas.

Thank you FiveCustardTarts. I'm now on the special water rate.

I worked in a care home for people with dementia for 20 years.

Unfortunately pip or dla are nearly always used as a threshold for "proving" you are disabled in order to get access to disability grants so a lot wont be accessible to you. Hopefully some more people will come on with other ideas. There might be some random local grants. I think there is one near me in south yorkshire which gives money to single women over 40 to buy household appliances!

Thank you Geneticsbunny That does seem to be the way it is!

I can't find a single other local grant that doesn't require a referral.
Several for White goods which is lovely to see (I'm actually alright for White goods, I mean they are all years old & second hand but still working!)

I've spoken to CAB again on the online chat. Much better today, they are getting the local branch to call or book me an appointment. I suppose the advisor yesterday was just having a bad day.

Would stuff like olio help? Might mean you can get cheaper food whichh could help a bit?

Thank you Geneticsbunny, I signed up to a similar one but it wasn't any good for me. It was all things like 'Pay £10 & you get a bag worth £20' which is great, but you need the £10 in the first place.

CAB said that I should have been offered a food voucher yesterday, since I'm paying for food on CC.

You could possibly self refer to your local council Occupational Health for an assessment, or you can ask your GP to refer you for one.

They have info on all health related grants available from NHS/council/private etc and can also help you with making your home easier for you to navigate with grab rails/ step to get into bath/ bath chairs etc, all completely free. They can also refer you to housing associations/ council housing if you need it too.

I'm sure they can source and provide things like incontinence sheets etc too.

Apologies😳, I meant to write Occupational THERAPY referral !

Thank you Whatbloodysummer I will go back to the GP at some point. I don't think that much can be done for the home since it's private rented, but I could always give it a try.
