Please help me out with buying something for my mums birthday.

Shes going to be 69.

Likes knitting / has a new sewing machine / precious hobby of felting but not doing that any more. Still works - works from home. Likes natural fibre clothing - wool / cotton. Sea salt style clothes. Has grandchildren. Likes jewellery (so I’m actively looking for earrings but not inspired by anything yet). Probably needs a new Fitbit but I can’t afford one. Not very active / doesn’t do sports etc.

Budget?
I've had some fun hampers delivered over the years - cream teas, cheese or Cornish pasties were particularly successful ones.

What about a plant for the garden, some garden lights, pretty statue etc, a shelf for the fence to add interest, a garden mirror to reflect light...
Or a yarn bowl, small interesting knitting project
We often would do a small afternoon tea rather than a present and bake/make all the goods with her grandchildren- and they make a few decorations these days

I’m not far off that age, and I’d like a kimono top from 100 Stars, some books( The Names is good, as is Introducing Mrs Collins) silver bangles, eyeliner from Prime Prometics and theatre tickets. But you know your own mum, she might not like what I do.

KnickerlessParsons · 26/04/2026 16:09

I’m just a few years younger and you could buy me almost anything from Seasalt and I’d be happy.
Big no to cream teas in a box and the like though.
I’d also be delighted with a voucher for a wool shop.

JellicleCat · 26/04/2026 16:59

Similar age and interests, are you my daughter? 👀
I agree with a wool shop voucher, great idea. No to hampers which always come with something you don't like.
Other things I'd like - a bottle of nice gin, an expensive candle, anything from l'Occitane,
But what I'd most like is a posh afternoon tea with my daughter.

I am 68, and I love it when DD and I have an indulgent lunch/tea/dinner together.

Ask her! She's not 7, she doesn't need a surprise.
Otherwise.....
She's my age group, and women in their 60s tend not to want "stuff", nor anything described as "posh", FFS.
Just arrange to take her out for a drink/lunch/theatre trip/ gallery show/footie match.... whatever she'd enjoy.

Thanks guys, some really nice ideas on here. Will look at wool voucher and also silver bangles, maybe a top from sea salt .

garden statue could be a good call,
bought a couple of bamboo yarn bowls a few years ago which she loved.

Have booked a nice meal out so will do that anyway.

Have a look at Not on the High Street for bangles and earrings

How does she store her jewellery? Maybe some clear drawers or jewellery stands?
