oh dear, im so scared/excited!

my DS in year10 and now its time to choose the Head Boy and Girl! I work in his school, so I’m aloud the vote too.
obviously I want him to win ( he worked really hard for it since yr7) but I was wondering…. How does the school makes the final decision?

Each school has its own method.

our DS was deputy head boy which was perfect - the head pupils had a lot of extra very time consuming roles which wasn’t ideal in a very busy year

Surely you will only know if you ask what the process is for your school as all schools will do it differently.

headboyandgirl · 24/04/2026 21:06

In our school, the staff gets to vote first and the ones who make it to interview stage automatically qualify to senior prefects. Then interview w SLT and students from lower school

Very weird

You work at the school in question

I just wanted to hear other people’s opinion and experiences

I’m concerned for your son!

But if you know what the process is at your school why the need to ask how schools make the final decision? As I said it will differ from school to school so if you know the process at your son's school all you know is the process at one school?

It’s not weird. It was more like a starting point to try understand how other schools do it

Surely you should exempt yourself from voting as you are a parent of one of the students?

Why?

Because you have a conflict of interest?

How would we know how the school makes the final decision if you don’t know and you work there?!

sanityisamyth · 24/04/2026 21:25

How are we supposed to know the process at the school that you work at?!

BTW it’s allowed, not aloud.

mynameiscalypso · 24/04/2026 21:40

Has he really spent the last four years working to become Head Boy? That feels like a huge amount of pressure on him.

Unless you're going to move schools why would that matter or need to be understood?

Clubbiscuit · 25/04/2026 10:39

Good luck to your son OP. Some weird people on here.

Pearshapedpear · 25/04/2026 10:50

Scared/excited….. overreaction much? 🙄

Toddlerteaplease · 25/04/2026 16:22

Surely you shouldn’t vote for your own son.
