Hello, can anyone recommend a simple skincare routine which doesn’t cost the earth?
Sorry if this has been done to death!
I’m 57 and currently use wipes and L’oréal day and night cream.

I'm 58 & I've done a fairly stripped back routine for years now:

Oil based cream cleanser and a flannel (wipes are notoriously bad) - I love the Superdrug Hot Cloth Cleanser - I only ever buy it on offer (its always on offer) & rarely pay more than £5. It's £4.50 if you have a superdrug card.
Using a hot flannel also acts as exfoliator

I use the Oridinary rich moisturiser £20 but again buy on offer (23% off in April),and SPF if I need it.

And my treat is the Zoe Bee night cream - I use the Aloe Vera one. It cost a bit more but a large jar lasts me about 8 months. She makes to order and if you go on her list you get an email when she has restocked.

I’m 50 and k use CeraVe - their foaming face wash which I wash off with a warm flannel that I gently press into the skin before wiping.

I follow that with the CeraVe hydrating face and body cream. I do give my skin a good massage each morning whilst rubbing in the cream.

That’s it - I just keep it simple and cheap. I’ve used lots of expensive stuff in the past but I fine this just works.

Evening:

  • Cleanse. I use mostly gel cleansers from the supermarket, whatever is on offer. Rinsed off with a hot damp facecloth. I wash twice if I've worn make up.
  • Tone. I use any toner in a small spray bottle to spritz after toning.
  • Serum. I have a huge collection of these and switch up my serums day to day / morning and night. (I brush my teeth whilst this is soaking in)
  • moisturise. Whatever night cream is on offer.

Morning:
I wash with soap and facial exfoliating sponge in morning shower. Then serum, brush teeth, moisturise and spf 50+ skin tint.

I look forward to my skincare at night now it's a real treat to wash off the day. When I started to feel too tired to bother fully at bedtime, I started earlier when the bathroom wasn't busy, often around 7/8pm and have a couple of hours to marinate in all the lotions before bed.

Skincare novice here. Well, probably not even at novice level.

What is serum? what does it do?

And toner?

Oil cleansing method.

You will have an initial outlay for the oils, but then you will literally be able to mix up a batch for years to come.

You don’t need all these fancy products and it’s a really lovely gentle way to look after your skin. And a good SPF 50 cream for any days you are outside for a long time.
